... Read moreHey everyone! I know how daunting it can feel to hit your daily protein targets. For a long time, I was just guessing, and honestly, I found myself falling short of my 59g protein goal more often than not. But after a lot of trial and error, I've finally figured out some simple, delicious ways to consistently get those grams in, and I wanted to share my personal journey and tips with you!
Why 59g of protein, you ask? For me, it's about feeling full, supporting my active lifestyle, and helping my muscles recover. It's not about being super strict, but about being mindful. When I started focusing on this number, I noticed a huge difference in my energy levels and overall well-being.
My absolute game-changer has been my morning protein smoothie. It's incredibly easy to make and packs a serious punch. Here’s what goes into my blender, as you might have seen from my ingredients display:
1 cup frozen strawberries: Adds natural sweetness and a great boost of Vitamin C!
1 scoop of your favorite protein powder: This is where a big chunk of those 59g comes from. I usually go for a vanilla or unflavored whey or plant-based option.
1 cup milk (almond, soy, or dairy): Adds to creaminess and a bit more protein. Choose what works best for you!
1/2 cup rolled oats: Not just for fiber, oats contribute a surprising amount of protein and make the smoothie more filling.
1-2 tablespoons ground flaxseed: Great for healthy fats and a little extra protein boost, plus fiber.
Optional: 1 scoop collagen peptides: I love adding this for skin and joint health, and it quietly adds more protein without changing the taste. This was a key addition to my breakfast items!
Just blend it all up until smooth, and you’ve got a delicious, nutrient-dense breakfast that gets me well on my way to my 59g goal. This one smoothie alone often gets me to about 30-40g, depending on the protein powder and milk I use! It literally fills my blender bottle and keeps me full for hours.
But a smoothie isn't the only way to reach 59g protein. I've learned to think protein-first for all my meals. For lunch, instead of just a salad, I'll add grilled chicken, chickpeas, or lentils. Snacks are often Greek yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, or a handful of almonds. Dinner might be salmon with quinoa, or a lean turkey stir-fry. It's about making small, consistent choices throughout the day.
Another key part of my strategy, as you might have seen from my nutrition tracking app screenshots, is actually using one! Seriously, it's a game-changer. It helped me visualize where I was falling short and where I could easily add more protein. Seeing that daily total climb towards my 59g goal kept me motivated. I love how these apps break down fats, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, and vitamins too – it’s not just about protein, but a holistic view of intake including Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Calcium percentages. Before, I never realized how much Vitamin C I was getting from my frozen strawberries, or how much calcium was in my milk!
My advice? Don't get overwhelmed. Start with one meal, like a powerful breakfast smoothie, and then gradually incorporate more protein-rich options into your other meals. Tracking for a few days can give you amazing insights into your current habits. It’s been a journey for me, but consistently hitting my 59 grams of protein has made me feel so much stronger and more energized. You can do it too!
