... Read moreReflecting on my own school experience, I realized years after graduation how little emphasis there was on practical life skills that truly matter. While I mastered subjects like geometry, I was left unprepared for essential real-world challenges such as budgeting, understanding taxes, or negotiating in professional settings. In many education systems, the curriculum is heavily tilted toward theoretical knowledge designed to create obedient workers rather than independent thinkers. This mindset discourages questioning authority or exploring entrepreneurship, limiting creativity and critical thinking. For example, in class, we’d often memorize formulas like the Pythagorean theorem but never had discussions on how to manage personal finances or build wealth. From personal experience and conversations with others, I’ve found that the absence of financial literacy classes contributes to common struggles with money management in adulthood. Teaching practical skills such as tax filing, credit management, or launching a startup could empower students considerably and help them thrive beyond school. Furthermore, curiosity and questioning are sometimes labeled problematic, leading to discouragement or attempts to suppress it. Yet, questioning the status quo is vital for innovation and success in the modern world. Educational reform focused on blending critical thinking, practical life skills, and creativity could bridge this gap. Ultimately, it feels like the education system’s design was more about producing compliant participants rather than independent leaders or entrepreneurs. Recognizing this limitation is crucial, but we can also supplement our learning independently or through alternative education platforms to equip ourselves better for the real world.

When Strength Was Learned, Not Chosen
When support wasn’t consistent, your nervous system adapted. You didn’t become strong because it felt good. You became strong because it felt necessary. Hyper-independence isn’t a personality trait. It’s a survival response to inconsistency. And while that strength may have protected you once

I’ll never forget the day I ruined my favorite beige knit set. I threw it in with a load of towels, used hot water, and added way too much detergent because I thought it would make everything “extra clean.” When I pulled it out, it was stiff, pilled, and two sizes smaller. I genuinely sat there sta
