Wow, I completely feel your pain! Losing a Hardcore world is brutal, but losing it just as you're about to strike it rich with diamonds? That's a special kind of heartbreak. I remember one of my own runs, around day 14, where I was deep underground at a similar Y-level to your -39, maybe even around -60, thinking I was invincible with my newly crafted diamond sword. Then, that hiss... and everything was gone. It really makes you rethink your entire strategy, doesn't it? For anyone playing Hardcore, preventing creeper ambushes while diamond mining is absolutely critical. My biggest tip? Lighting, lighting, lighting! Seriously, don't skimp on torches. Every single block line of your tunnels, your branch mines, even the little nooks and crannies where you spot a diamond vein – make sure it's fully lit. Creepers are silent until they're right on top of you, so denying them dark spawn spots is your first line of defense. I also learned to always carry a shield. It’s a simple item, but it can be the difference between life and death. If you hear that sizzle, quickly whip out your shield. It can absorb most of the damage and knockback, giving you a chance to retreat or strike back. Another crucial strategy, especially when you're mining at those deeper levels where diamonds are abundant (like coordinates around Y=-59 for current versions!), is to 'pillar up' or create safe zones. Instead of just digging a long tunnel, maybe dig a small 3x3 room every 20-30 blocks. Light it up completely and use it as a mini-safe house. You can even store an emergency chest there with extra food or torches. When you're exploring new cave systems, always proceed cautiously, listening for sounds and looking around corners. Creepers often lurk in those unexpected spots. Before you start mining a vein of diamonds, take a full 360-degree scan of your surroundings. Clear out any mobs, place extra torches, and even consider walling off your immediate area if it's a particularly vulnerable spot. When I’m branch mining for diamonds, I typically dig a main tunnel and then branch out every two blocks. This allows me to see both sides effectively and ensures I don't miss any veins. But the real trick is to always clear out a 2-block radius around any exposed ore before you start harvesting it. That small effort can prevent a hidden creeper from popping out right as you’re focused on mining. Also, consider having a water bucket on your hotbar. It's not just for MLG saves; placing water can push creepers away or even defuse them if they ignite in the water. Hardcore Minecraft is all about vigilance. Every decision, every block placed or broken, has to be deliberate. I've heard stories, and experienced it myself, where a moment of complacency costs you everything. Your diamond sword, your hard-earned progress over days, all gone. It teaches you patience and extreme caution. After losing a world, it's tough to restart, but each loss is a lesson. You learn to never underestimate even the most common enemy, especially that green menace. And always, always, double-check your surroundings before that pickaxe hits the diamond ore. It’s a challenging mode, but that thrill of knowing everything is on the line is what keeps us coming back, even after a devastating creeper surprise.
