What you need to know before visiting
- it is hard to find, up a winding hill and tight streets
- make sure to carry a scarf, you have to cover your hair
- try to go earlier rather than later
When I was doing research, I thought it was an archeological site, but people still worship there, so I had no idea and went almost at prayer time.
When I was there, I did feel a lot of anxiety, which is when I decided to do more research and found out that it had once been a Hindu temple. Over 30 temples’ were razed and from them, its pillars. Any site built on violence can be heavy and difficult to mentally navigate.
But I genuinely can’t believe that such an old monument exists, and not a lot of people have visited or know just how old this place is.
It’s absolutely breathtaking to visit.
