SIGNS OF A HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM IN KIDS

Having a healthy immune system is so important! An immune system does a lot of different things in the body. What we do in pregnancy and birth can effect our baby’s immune system before they’re even born. Breastfeeding and proper solid introduction can further benefit your children’s immune systems.

Here are some signs you can look for to know that your children have a healthy and strong immune system.

1. GOOD GUT HEALTH

Good gut health and digestion is a huge sign of immune health because a lot of the immune system lives in the gut!

2. CUTS AND SCRAPS HEAL WELL

When your kid falls down and gets a scrap or bruise it is the immune system that is needed to heal it. So having a healthy immune system will mean the skin healing quickly!

3. RECOVER QUICKLY FROM SICKNESSES

Having a healthy immune system doesn’t mean that you never get sick. Getting sick 2 or 3 times a year is actually healthy! It is how quickly they recover that tells you how their immune system functions.

... Read moreA child's immune system is crucial for overall health, and understanding the signs of a healthy immune system can provide peace of mind for parents. Good gut health is foundational, as a significant portion of the immune system operates in the gut. This means ensuring a diet high in fibers, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, supports both digestion and immunity. Healing from minor injuries quickly indicates a robust immune response. If your child experiences cuts or scrapes that heal rapidly, it suggests their immune system is functioning optimally. These factors can be influenced by a nutritious diet rich in vitamins, especially Vitamin A and C, which aid in skin health and healing processes. It's normal for children to get sick occasionally; in fact, experiencing a few illnesses a year helps build their immune defenses. The key is how swiftly your child recovers; a faster recovery means their immune system is effectively combating pathogens. Parents should monitor these signs, understand how their actions—such as breastfeeding and introducing solid foods—affect their child’s health during pregnancy and early childhood, and seek professional advice if there are concerns regarding their child's immune health.
