25 Classes at Lab Studio - Was it worth it?

I wrote another post after completing 5 classes with labstudio, thought to write another to sum up my time there. After completing 25 classes for $450 package (about $18 per class), I’ve tried a good mix of sessions: Barre Signature, Burn & Stretch, Mat Pilates, and Lab Stretch.

My usual weekly go-to is Barre Signature. I’m very used to this format and it feels comfortable and familiar. However, somewhere in the middle of the package, I started to feel that it became a little repetitive — the same Pilates ball and light weights are used quite often. That said, it’s still a solid class that burns in the best way.

Mat Pilates was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed the use of ankle weights, and the class structure felt more varied. We end off with stations for about five minutes, which keeps things interesting. I think it’s a good class to rotate with Barre Signature once in a while to change things up.

I didn’t really enjoy Burn & Stretch. Personally, the stretching portion felt too intense for me — at one point, we were asked to do a front split when I can’t even touch my toes 😅. It just wasn’t something my body enjoyed.

For my last class credit, I tried Lab Stretch, and I loved it. I initially thought it would be intense as well, but the instructor kept emphasising that stretching shouldn’t hurt. The entire class felt comfortable and restorative, with lots of gentle stretches and a much slower pace. The instructor also shared words of encouragement throughout each set, which made the experience even better. I could even close my eyes while stretching — that’s how relaxing it was.

One thing to note is that classes at the Holland Village outlet can get quite packed on weekday evenings. Sometimes we have to stagger ourselves to avoid bumping into one another. Also, the class duration has changed from 55 minutes to 45 minutes to accommodate more sessions. Initially, I did notice the difference — the warm-up felt more rushed — but the burn is still very real! Now, I hardly notice the shorter duration at all.

I’ve grown really comfortable with the studio and instructors at Holland Village, but towards the end of my package, I decided to try classes at the Thomson outlet as well, just to experience a different environment and teaching style.

Now that I’m done with this package, I’m thinking of exploring other forms of exercise. If you have any recommendations, let me know — I’d love to try something new!

... Read moreFrom my experience, one aspect that truly stood out about Lab Studio was the supportive and motivating instructors who made even the challenging classes feel approachable. The shoutouts and encouragement during Lab Stretch made me feel more relaxed and helped me really enjoy the process of stretching. For those wondering about switching things up in their workout routine, I’d recommend trying a mix of classes like I did. The Mat Pilates sessions with ankle weights offered variety that helped me avoid boredom and engaged muscles differently compared to the usual Barre classes. I found rotating classes was key to staying interested. Also, if you’re someone who feels intimidated by intense stretching, Lab Stretch is a gentle alternative that doesn’t push your body beyond comfort. It balances well with more intense classes and helped improve my flexibility over time. Be mindful that peak times at the Holland Village studio can get crowded, and the class duration change from 55 to 45 minutes can feel rushed at first but doesn’t affect the workout’s effectiveness much. Personally, exploring the Thomson outlet gave me fresh perspectives on teaching styles and helped refresh my routine. It’s worth trying different locations if convenient. If you’re thinking about switching to other fitness forms after Lab Studio, consider low-impact workouts that emphasize flexibility or strength training classes that complement Pilates and Barre. Yoga, swimming, or even dance-based fitness could be enjoyable new paths worth exploring! Feel free to share your favorite workout recommendations too.

The Difference between STR & Pilates!
Pilates is extremely popular but have you heard of Slow Resistance Training?? STR is a high-intensity, low-impact training. It’s a powerful workout designed to build strength and endurance. Here at Lab Studios, we call it LabX. STR is not Pilates and here are the differences: Machine: STR use
