How I got rid of my fungal acne • mild products >

Hello, pretty ladies! Tiny bumps/fungal acne on the forehead might have a variety of causes. Although acne isn't the main cause, it is frequently linked to these bumps. They could be related to things like damaged hair follicles, allergic responses, or dead skin cells. These bumps are frequently not harmful but if you don't like how they look, you can try to get rid of them! I have shared this method with so many people with various skin type and I think you will love it too!

DOUBLE CLEANSING

• Use a proper double washing method that removes all oil-based and water-based pollutants to avoid congested pores. For this step, I used Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleaning Foaming Wash and Kiehl's Calendula Herbal Extract Toner Alcohol Free. Washing your face twice, once with an oil-based cleanser and once with a water-based cleanser, is known as double cleansing.

USE RETINOL/RETINOID

• Retinol/ retinoid is a very powerful skincare product but it's so underrated. But it has proved that it could reduce texture and fine wrinkles, leaving a smoother younger appearance! I like using my Retacnyl Tretinoin Cream, however you shouldn't use it too often because it can trigger purging.

SCALP SOOTHING SHAMPOO:

Its antifungal characteristics help in the removal of Malassezia, the cause of fungal acne. Gently wash, soothe, and prevent recurrence for clearer skin. The Aveeno Scalp Soothing Haircare Shampoo is my favorite since it has a plant protein combination and is sulfate-free. For optimal results, use it 2-3 times each week.

... Read moreHey everyone! If you're anything like me, you've probably been endlessly searching for answers to those pesky, persistent bumps on your skin. I used to feel so frustrated, wondering why my acne treatments weren't working, only to discover I wasn't dealing with typical acne at all—it was fungal acne, also known as Malassezia folliculitis! Fungal Acne vs. Regular Acne: Spotting the Difference This was a huge turning point for me. Unlike bacterial acne, which often presents as inflamed, varied-sized pimples and cysts, fungal acne usually appears as small, uniform bumps that can be incredibly itchy. I noticed mine were mostly on my forehead, but they can pop up on your chest, back, and even neck. The key difference? Regular acne is caused by bacteria, while fungal acne is due to an overgrowth of yeast (Malassezia) in your hair follicles. If your 'acne' doesn't respond to typical acne treatments, or if it's super itchy, you might be dealing with fungal acne like I was. Knowing this distinction is crucial for effective treatment! Why Your Fungal Acne Might Not Be Going Away This was my biggest frustration! I kept using salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, thinking I was tackling acne, but my skin just wasn't clearing up. Here’s what I learned about why it might not be improving: Misdiagnosis: The most common reason! Using antibacterial products on a fungal issue won't solve the problem, and can even make it worse by disrupting your skin's microbiome. Product Ingredients: Many skincare products, especially those rich in certain oils (like olive oil, sunflower oil, or ester-based ingredients), can actually 'feed' the Malassezia yeast, causing it to flourish. Checking product ingredients for fungal acne-safe options became a game-changer for me. Humidity & Sweat: I realized that after workouts or during humid weather, my fungal acne would flare up. Yeast loves warm, moist environments, so keeping my skin clean and dry, especially after sweating, was really important. Inconsistency: Just like any skin condition, treating fungal acne requires patience and consistency. Skipping steps or not using products regularly can hinder progress. Beyond the Basics: My Expanded Tips for Clear Skin After understanding the root cause, I really honed in on specific strategies to complement my core routine (double cleansing, retinoid, and antifungal shampoo): Targeted Antifungals: While the original article mentions antifungal shampoo for the scalp, I found incorporating topical antifungal creams or washes containing ingredients like ketoconazole, pyrithione zinc, or selenium sulfide a great addition for direct application on my face (if suitable for sensitive skin). Addressing the Panoxyl Question: Many wonder if products like Panoxyl (benzoyl peroxide) help. While benzoyl peroxide is a fantastic antibacterial agent for regular acne, it's not a primary antifungal. It might offer some indirect benefits by reducing general skin bacteria, but it's not directly targeting the Malassezia yeast. I personally found more success with dedicated antifungal ingredients, but some people use it cautiously in combination. Always patch test! Fungal Acne-Safe Skincare: This was a huge learning curve. I started looking for products labeled 'non-comedogenic' and specifically checking ingredient lists to avoid anything that could feed the yeast. Gentle, mild cleansers and hydrating toners that don't strip the skin are key, as mentioned with calendula products. My goal was to restore my skin barrier, not just zap the yeast. Hair Care Matters: Don't underestimate the power of a good scalp-soothing shampoo with antifungal properties. I learned to be diligent about washing my hair, especially after exercise, to prevent yeast from migrating to my forehead. Looking for sulfate-free options that are gentle on your scalp can make a big difference. Patience and Consistency: Seriously, this is not an overnight fix. I stuck with my routine for weeks, even months, before seeing the full transformation. It takes time for the skin to rebalance and heal. If you've tried everything and are still struggling, please don't hesitate to consult a dermatologist. They can offer professional diagnosis and prescription-strength treatments that might be necessary. My journey to clear skin was long, but so rewarding once I understood what I was truly fighting!
