Help! What hair type do I have?🌸🎀💕🌷🧴

Plz help me! What hair do I have and what products do you recommend?

My hair is really long and when it’s freshly washed and scrunched it’s kinda curly from the bottom but it’s always really flat from the top.

I usually wear my hair in a braid so it doesn’t get tangled bc it’s long, so I feel like i need to brush it out before I braid it

When it’s brushed out though, it’s usually kind of wavy and sometimes frizzy.

Comment what hair type ygs think I have or any hair care recommendations!! 🫶🫶

... Read moreI totally get how confusing it can be to figure out your hair type! For years, I struggled with my own hair, thinking it was just 'frizzy' or 'unmanageable' when really, I just didn't know how to care for its unique texture. Your description of 'long and kinda curly from the bottom but flat from the top' with some waviness and frizz when brushed out sounds super familiar to many people who actually have wavy or even loose curly hair! Based on what you've described, especially your long, dark hair being 'kinda curly from the bottom' when scrunched after washing, and turning 'wavy' when brushed, it sounds very much like you have a wavy hair type, possibly Type 2B or 2C. Type 2 hair tends to be straighter at the roots and forms S-shaped waves further down. The 'flat from the top' observation is super common for wavy hair as the waves typically start lower down the strand. The frizz you mentioned when it's brushed out is another big clue! Brushing dry wavy or curly hair often disrupts the curl pattern, leading to frizz. Many wavy-haired folks find their hair gets tangled easily too, especially when it's long, which explains why you wear it in a braid. Here are a few ways to help identify your hair type and some product recommendations I’ve found really helpful for managing wavy, frizzy hair like yours: 1. The Wet Test for Your Natural Pattern: Next time you wash your hair, observe it closely before you put any products in and before you brush it. Gently squeeze out excess water and let it air dry a bit. Does it form distinct 'S' shapes or even loose spirals? That's your natural pattern. If it dries with a slight bend but no real shape, it might be more wavy. If it forms more defined spirals, you might be closer to a Type 3 curly. Pay attention to how those natural waves perform after being scrunched, as you mentioned. 2. Avoid Brushing Dry Hair: This is a game-changer for anyone with wavy or curly hair. Try to detangle your long hair only when it's wet and conditioned, using a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. This can drastically reduce frizz and help your natural waves or curls form better, making your 'wavy and slightly frizzy' hair much more manageable. 3. Product Recommendations for Volume & Frizz Control: Since your goal is to reduce flatness at the top and enhance your waves while controlling frizz, here are some product and routine ideas: Sulfate-Free Shampoo & Conditioner: These are gentler and won't strip your hair of its natural oils, which can lead to more frizz. Look for hydrating formulas. Lightweight Leave-in Conditioner: Apply a small amount to damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. This adds moisture without weighing down the roots. Mousse or Gel for Definition: After applying leave-in, use a lightweight mousse or a soft-hold gel. Apply by scrunching upwards from the ends towards the roots. This will encourage your waves to form and help with definition, especially for that 'kinda curly from the bottom' look. Don't be afraid to apply a bit at the roots if you want more lift there! Micro-Plopping/Scrunching: Instead of towel-drying, use an old cotton t-shirt or a microfiber towel to gently scrunch out excess water. This helps preserve your wave pattern and reduces frizz, especially for the 'long, dark, wavy hair' you have. Diffuser Drying: If you use a hairdryer, try a diffuser attachment on a low heat and low speed setting. This helps dry your hair gently while enhancing your natural waves and adding volume, potentially combating the 'flat from the top' issue. Silk Pillowcase: This might sound extra, but a silk pillowcase can significantly reduce frizz and tangles overnight, which is great for your long, wavy hair that you said gets tangled easily. Experimenting is key! What works for one person might not work for another, but these steps should give you a great starting point for embracing your beautiful wavy texture and getting those curls to pop, even from the top! Let us know what you try and how it goes!
