Pregnancy story! 👶🏻

TW: Mention of miscarriage.

This pregnancy started out with heartbreak.

Shortly after I found out I was pregnant I had some bleeding on Valentine’s Day so we went to the ER.

While we were there they took my blood to check my hCG and it was only 63. Due to the bleeding and seeing nothing on the ultrasound the Dr determined we were having a miscarriage.

On paper it was a miscarriage.

We mourned our baby on Valentine’s Day. We cried. We hugged. Prayed. We talked. About 1,000 ‘what if’s’ ran through our heads.

Something in my heart told me to not lose hope. I can’t explain the feeling I felt, but I just felt hope in my heart.

Over the course of about a month I got blood tests done 3 times a week to check my hCG levels.

My levels were going up! After each test they were doubling, if not tripling! I was experiencing all of the normal pregnancy symptoms after a month of the initial bleeding. In fact… I’ve been so sick this time around.

This was shocking and led the Drs to believe this could be an ectopic pregnancy or even super early pregnancy, instead of a miscarriage.

About a month later I got a second ultrasound. In that ultrasound I was stunned to see that there was a baby in there, in the right place, with a healthy heartbeat of 149!

This confirmed that I was indeed still pregnant! I just found out so early. I wouldn’t have known if I was not testing. I was 7 weeks and 3 days on the day of the ultrasound. They did see some other things that are concerning so I do have another ultrasound at the end of this month.

Come to find out through testing, I did have twins at one point and one baby was absorbed. So we did lose one baby but the other baby was still thriving!

This was a big reason we didn’t say anything for a long time. We were scared (and I still am) that something may happen. People can be so taboo about when miscarriage is brought up. Not enough people talk about their experiences because people act so weird when they hear that word…

We decided to tell people and man… Some reactions where far from expected, but that’s okay! It’s our family we are growing and you don’t have to like or agree with any decisions we make. We are happy about this baby. I’m sorry if you can’t be happy with us.

I’m just blessed this baby is growing and healthy!

If you read this far know that I appreciate you for reading my experience. 🫶🏼

... Read morePregnancy is often depicted as a joyful experience, but many face challenges along the way, such as miscarriage and uncertainty about their pregnancy. It's crucial to understand that every pregnancy journey is unique and may involve heartbreak before joy. Miscarriage is a common experience, affecting many individuals and couples; however, the emotional impact it brings can be overwhelming. Conversations about pregnancy loss, such as miscarriage, need to be destigmatized to help those affected feel less isolated. Sharing your journey can offer support to others going through similar experiences, fostering a sense of community. In discussing my own experiences with miscarriage, it's essential to recognize the physical and emotional toll this can have. After experiencing bleeding early on, many might wonder whether they're facing a miscarriage or just a normal part of the early stages of pregnancy. Understanding hCG levels and ultrasound results can also be daunting, yet they offer insight into the situation. Regular monitoring and clear communication with healthcare providers can provide reassurance during this challenging time. As stories of unexpected outcomes emerge, such as discovering a healthy heartbeat after initial fears, they highlight the importance of perseverance and keeping hope alive. Moreover, it's important to advocate for greater awareness and sensitivity surrounding miscarriage to create a supportive environment for those affected. By sharing personal stories, like my own, we can empower others to speak candidly about their experiences. This not only helps reduce stigma but also encourages more open discussions about pregnancy-related emotions, ultimately leading to improved mental health for individuals navigating these difficult moments. Remember, you're not alone in your journey, and sharing our stories can bring light to others in the darkness.
