... Read moreIf you're exploring Johor Bahru's vibrant food scene, adding a few more dishes and insights to your itinerary can truly elevate your experience. For instance, at Dusk by Mok Mok, besides the popular salmon mentaiko pasta and big brekkie, I found their honey oat coffee an unexpected highlight — the crunchy oats brought a delightful twist to the usual coffee texture. It’s a drink that perfectly complements the rich dishes. When it comes to Lok Lok, it’s worth trying beyond just the king oyster mushrooms. Skewers like marinated chicken wings and fish balls offer a great variety and showcase the casual, street-style charm of the cuisine. Pairing different skewers with dipping sauces can make the meal more interactive and fun. For dimsum lovers, Tian Xin Lou offers an authentic feast that's great for sharing. While the carrot cake and crispy shrimp rolls were my favorites, I suggest trying the xiao long bao if you enjoy juicy dumplings packed with broth. The taro balls, however, might not be for everyone — they were a bit too sweet and chewy for my taste, but if you like desserts with stronger sweetness and texture, you might enjoy them. Knowing the prices and portion sizes also helps plan your visit better. For example, the salmon mentaiko pasta is more of a specialty dish and priced higher, while Lok Lok skewers are affordable and allow you to sample many items without overspending. Finally, don’t forget to check the availability of drinks like the matcha latte, which can run out quickly but adds a refreshing balance to heavier meals. This kind of detailed planning can make your JB food trip all the more enjoyable and satisfying.
