Book Review: Before She Knew Him
This was a book I got for like $2 At a book sale. It was apparently part of Book of the Month in March 2019.
This book needs trigger warnings 😭😂
I personally wasn’t triggered but for others it might be triggering as it contains SA, Abuse, Mental Health illnesses, slightly gory details of m*rder.
Just a whole lot of craziness I wasn’t expecting 🤣
I actually very much enjoyed this book and it was something I don’t normally read and actually I would read something similar tbh. It was very good and too be honest after the twist at the end I want to reread it again bc now I know and I need to go back and make sense of stuff now that I know what I know.
Honestly would recommend 4/5

After diving into my initial thoughts on Peter Swanson's 'Before She Knew Him,' I wanted to expand a bit more on what makes this book such a compelling read, especially for those curious about its unique elements and potential adaptations. When I first picked it up, lured by its reputation as a thriller, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but the tagline, 'Catching a killer is dangerous—especially if he lives next door,' immediately hooked me. Speaking of the book itself, let's talk about that striking cover. My copy features a light blue design with a woman's face, simple yet evocative, truly hinting at the psychological depth within. It’s one of those covers that perfectly sets the mood without giving too much away, a visual prelude to the 'Serial Killer Neighbor' theme that drives the narrative. It makes you wonder about the secrets hidden behind closed doors, and that's precisely where Swanson excels. Now, for those wondering if there's a 'Before She Knew Him movie,' as many thrillers eventually hit the screen, as far as I know, there isn't an official film adaptation yet. However, I can absolutely see this novel translating into a gripping psychological thriller movie. The intricate plot, the morally ambiguous characters, and the constant tension would be fantastic on screen. Imagine the build-up to those 'Shocking plot twists' or the visual representation of the 'Family Secrets' slowly unraveling. It has all the elements for a suspenseful cinematic experience that would keep audiences guessing until the very end. Without giving away any major spoilers, the core intrigue, often hinted at by queries like 'killer peter plot,' lies in the protagonist's chilling discovery about her seemingly ordinary neighbor. Peter Swanson masterfully crafts a narrative that is less about a straightforward investigation and more about the psychological unraveling of trust and perception. The way he introduces the 'Shocking plot twists' is truly genius; they don't just add surprise, they force you to re-evaluate everything you thought you knew. It's a testament to his skill that I found myself constantly questioning motives and allegiances, right up to the final pages. The book isn't just a simple 'who-done-it'; it delves deep into the complexities of human nature, obsession, and the dark corners of the mind. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers that offer more than just a surface-level scare, with plenty of 'Family Secrets' and an unsettling premise, then Peter Swanson's 'Before She Knew Him' is an absolute must-read. My 4/5 rating is a solid endorsement for anyone looking for a book that will keep them engrossed and thinking long after they've turned the last page. It’s a wild ride that truly delivers on its promise of danger lurking next door.
