3 “Talking Stage” or “Courting” Tips Part 2 ! SAVE

Y’all really loved part 1 of tips, so let's make it a series, shall we?! I made this post with the idea of slow, intentional dating in mind (for lack of a better word). This is general advice and may not apply to everyone, and that's okay.

💞 "The first 5 dates should be in public spaces." Our goal is to date slowly and intentionally. That means no temptation for hanky panky (🤭) and serves as a safety precaution, just in case (God forbid) you don’t feel safe for any reason. This is just an estimate; you can go longer if you’d like.

💞 "Pet names like 'boo,' 'babe,' etc., are a no 👎 until 2-3 months in for both sides." For example, if CJ goes by CJ, that is A-OK. However, CJ should not be saved in the phone or referred to as 'boo,' 'babe,' 'baby,' etc., at least not in their presence 🤭. If they or he hasn’t stated their intentions yet, then labels like those can be very tricky and can lead to unnecessary attachments that may seem like a love connection but are not! However, this also leaves room for inside jokes that can turn into nicknames and build the bond of the relationship. Until then, keep it to yourself until the time is right.

💞 "Intentions should be spoken of and agreed upon by month 2." Lastly, this refers to the second tip. Men typically know within weeks, if not days, if they are going to date someone seriously. Eight weeks is more than enough time. If he hasn’t mentioned anything to you about it or refuses to speak on it when you bring it up, you should still be accepting dates from others and, I repeat, should NOT be intimate with him. FALL ALL THE WAY BACK! At this point, a shared kiss will be the most you lose. You still had fun, and you won’t be compromising your dating potential for a maybe.

I compiled this simple list from my own dating history and a few stories I’ve heard. This time around, I am approaching dating much differently, and I sense the shift in women in general—I am not the only one. We’re reclaiming our dating experiences and having fun at the same damn time!

... Read moreOkay, so we've all been there, right? That confusing 'talking stage' where you're not quite dating, but it's more than just being friends. It's truly a make-or-break period for potential relationships! Building on the initial tips about keeping early dates public and holding off on pet names, let's dive deeper into how we can truly master this phase and ensure we're on the right path. One of the biggest struggles, as many of us have found, is figuring out what someone's intentions truly are. This is where asking the right questions becomes your superpower. Instead of playing guessing games, proactively engage in conversations that help clarify where things stand. Think about questions that reveal values, future aspirations, and how they approach relationships. For instance, you could ask, "What are you looking for in a partnership right now?" or "What's important to you in a healthy relationship?" These aren't interrogation questions, but natural conversation starters that can help you understand if your paths are aligned. Don't shy away from discussing past relationship lessons – "What did you learn from your last relationship?" can offer huge insights into their self-awareness and growth. This is crucial for "setting boundaries early dating" and figuring out if this person is truly someone you want to invest in. And let's talk about texting, because it's such a huge part of modern "talking stage texting"! While it's great for quick check-ins, be wary if the entire "relationship" is happening over text. Are they making consistent efforts to see you in person? Are conversations deeper than just surface-level? If they're only texting late at night or being inconsistent, those can be red flags. The goal is to use texting as a tool to bridge meeting up, not replace it. It's about building genuine connection, not just keeping a digital conversation alive. Many of us wonder, "When does the 'talking stage' become the 'dating stage'?" This transition is often blurry, and it’s why clear communication is key. While the initial tips suggest discussing intentions by month two, you can subtly start exploring this sooner. Are you going on actual dates or just hanging out? Are you meeting each other's friends? These are indicators. If you feel ready to define things, initiate an honest conversation. Share your feelings and your desire for clarity. Something like, "I've really enjoyed getting to know you, and I'd love to explore where this could go exclusively" can open the door. This moves you from the ambiguous "talking vs dating stage" into something more defined. Finally, let's touch on intimacy, both emotional and physical. The tip about keeping early dates in "public spaces" is brilliant for safety and pacing. But beyond physical boundaries, prioritize building emotional intimacy. This means sharing vulnerabilities, listening actively, and truly seeing each other. Sometimes, a "lack of intimacy relationship" isn't about sex, but a deeper emotional disconnect. By focusing on genuine connection and communication during the "courting stage," you're building a strong foundation, rather than rushing into something that might not be sustainable. Remember, you're reclaiming your dating experience, and that means being intentional about every step.
