2B Bike License Lesson 7.01 (Attempt 1 and 2)

Hey everyone!

Another day another pass thankfully 😌🙏

The objective of lesson 7.01:

1. Ensure that you know where to check such as side roads, junctions, filter lanes.

2. Ensure that we can perform a good u turn

3. Lastly, ensure we memorize the route

For my first attempt, i messed up with my u turn and also filter lane checks.

For my u turn, i made a mistake where in the filter lane before the u turn, I dropped my right leg and did not lean left to compensate for the angle that I was stopping at. I also did not use my rear brake as much as when doing the u turn itself resulting in a very weird and awkward turn.

For my filter lane, the main feed back that i got from my instructors was that i went in too fast which resulted in less time for me to do the proper checks.

Some tips that helped me for u turn were:

1. Before the u turn and in the filter lane, stick left of the lane. And when stopping, hold the front brake lightly and use the rear brake more to come to a stop and at the same time, lean left so that you can drop your left leg instead of the right.

2. When performing the u turn, half clutch and throttle up a bit more while using the rear brake to control the break. More importantly look far into the middle lane so that the bike ends up in the middle lane.

Some tips for the filter lane that helped me were:

1. Before going into the filter lane, slow done and release the throttle a bit, about 1 and a half car lengths to ensure you can slow down. Use the front brake as well as it helps to gradually slow the bike down.

2. When entering filter lanes, check 1 car length before entering and prepare to slow down to assess the traffic conditions and proceed when it is safe to do so.

Thats pretty much all for lesson 7.01 and its components that are tested. If you have any questions about the lesson, I’ll share as much info as i can!

And with that, I’m 1 more lesson away from TP test. Ill update you guys again when i pass my lesson 8 and when I’m going for my TP test 🙏

Ride safe everyone!

... Read moreFrom my own learning journey with the 2B bike license, especially during Lesson 7.01, I've realized how crucial mastering both the U-turn and filter lane checks are to building safe riding habits. When I first practiced my U-turns, I noticed that simply dropping the wrong leg and failing to lean into the turn made the maneuver awkward and unstable. After adjusting my body positioning to lean left and dropping my left leg, the U-turn felt much more natural and controlled. Another big eye-opener was the importance of brake control during the U-turn. Using the rear brake more while gently holding the front brake at a stop allowed me better stability and smooth throttle control through the turn. Looking far ahead into the lane where I wanted the bike to end up helped guide my steering smoothly. When approaching filter lanes, it’s easy to underestimate the speed needed to perform safety checks. I learned to slow down early while releasing the throttle about one and a half car lengths before the lane, which gave me enough time to look out for surrounding traffic. Using both front and rear brakes gradually helped me reduce speed safely without abrupt stops. Also, checking one car length before entering the filter lane gave me enough space to assess traffic and decide whether it was safe to proceed. Memorizing the test route also made a significant difference. Knowing what to expect at each section helped me stay calm and focus on proper technique rather than worrying about what was coming next. If you’re preparing for this lesson, I recommend practicing these tips with a calm mindset and taking your time to build muscle memory. It might seem tricky at first, but consistent practice really pays off. Remember, every rider has their unique learning curve. Don’t be discouraged by initial mistakes like I did — they’re simply part of the process toward safer, confident riding. Most importantly, keep safety as your top priority and don’t rush. With these adjustments and careful practice, passing Lesson 7.01 and moving on to the final TP test will be just around the corner. Ride safe and stay focused!
