Steal My Perfect Brooklyn Day Itinerary

aka bridges, bakeries, ferries & discovering the Statue of Liberty is… smaller than expected...

if you only have one day to explore Brooklyn, this route is honestly a solid one. it covers the classic photo spots, some good food, and lets you see a lot without feeling like you’re speedrunning brooklyn

here’s how our day went:

🌉 Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

started the day with the classic Brooklyn Bridge walk. it takes ~30 minutes & is actually a really nice way to watch the Manhattan skyline slowly appear as you cross

if you’re an early bird, try to catch the sunrise. we reached around 10:30am and it was already getting quite crowded… so go earlier if you want the photos without 50 strangers in the background

takeaway: early = better photos + fewer crowds

📸 DUMBO Manhattan Bridge photo spot

head to the intersection of Water St and Washington St and you’ll see the famous view of the Manhattan Bridge framed perfectly between the old industrial buildings.

fun detail: if you look closely, the Empire State Building actually sits right inside the lower arch of the bridge.

it’s one of those spots where you’ll see people standing in the middle of the road trying to get the perfect shot. you WILL understand why once you see it

🥐 Brunch at Almondine Bakery

after the bridge walk, FOOD is mandatory. this cute little French bakery in DUMBO is perfect for a quick brunch stop. good pastries, good coffee, and a nice reset before continuing the exploring~

🌳 Stroll through Brooklyn Bridge Park

super chill waterfront park with amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. we just walked around, sat for a bit, people-watched, and rested our legs after the bridge walk.

takeaway: NYC days involve a lot of walking… build in rest stops!

🚤 Ferry to Williamsburg

from DUMBO, we took the NYC Ferry East River Route.

the ferry terminal is about 3 minutes from Juliana’s, and we rode two stops to North Williamsburg. i love using the ferry as a form of transport! honestly one of the most underrated ways to move around~ reminds me of the sydney ferry

☕ Coffee break at Caffè Vita

stopped here for coffee and a quick recharge. it caught our attention because it’s independent and LOCALLY owned since 1995, ANDD the coffee was super fresh. Williamsburg has tons of cool cafés though, so it’s a great neighbourhood to just wander and discover spots

🎨 Williamsburg graffiti stroll

walked around to check out the graffiti walls and street art. the area has a very artsy, slightly hipster vibe which makes it fun to explore. that said… the graffiti stretch is actually quite small, so don’t allocate too much time for it.

takeaway: good photo stop, but manage expectations

🗽 Statue of Liberty sighting (without the chaos)

we took the ferry to catch a view of the Statue of Liberty - didn’t actually go onto the island. apparently the security to visit Liberty Island can be pretty strict (bag checks, queues, etc) seeing it from the ferry was still cool… although I’ll be honest - I thought it would be WAYYY BIGGER. turns out it’s actually smaller than my brain imagined… still worth seeing though AND this is a good option if you don’t want to dedicate half a day to the full Liberty Island visit

🍽️ Dinner at Time Out Market New York

great place to end the day. it’s basically a curated food hall showcasing some of the best food NYC has to offer! 19 restaurants AND 3 bars! there’s something for EVERYONEEE

pro tip: go upstairs to the rooftop terrace for an amazing view of the Brooklyn Bridge while you eat

🚤 took the ferry back along the East River and headed home after a long but very scenic day

SAVE THIS if you're planning a BROOKLYN trip. this route honestly worked really well for us!

Brooklyn
3/21 Edited to

... Read moreIf you're planning a one-day visit to Brooklyn, it's key to balance must-see landmarks with enough downtime to truly enjoy the atmosphere. From my experience, starting early really enhances the Brooklyn Bridge walk. Catching the sunrise or early morning light not only means fewer crowds but also lets you soak up the stunning Manhattan skyline without distractions. Taking photos at the Water St and Washington St intersection in DUMBO is a must — the framed Manhattan Bridge with the Empire State Building in the background offers a quintessential NYC shot. I found stopping for brunch at Almondine Bakery a fantastic way to fuel up; their French pastries and coffee add an authentic local flavor. Brooklyn Bridge Park offers a peaceful waterfront retreat after the walk. Sitting and people-watching there makes it clear why NYC is so captivating. Using the NYC Ferry for transport felt refreshing and scenic; it’s an underrated way to see the city from a different perspective, reminiscent of Sydney ferries as mentioned. Williamsburg’s coffee scene is vibrant, and Cafè Vita stands out for its locally-owned charm and fresh brews — perfect for a quick recharge before exploring the street art. While Williamsburg’s graffiti spot is relatively small, it’s a fun photo stop and adds an artsy vibe. Viewing the Statue of Liberty from the ferry without visiting Liberty Island provides a great opportunity to experience the icon without the crowds and long security lines. This option is ideal if your schedule is tight or you prefer a less hectic experience. Finally, ending the day at Time Out Market New York is a treat with diverse food options and a rooftop terrace that perfectly caps off the Brooklyn day with its Brooklyn Bridge views. Overall, this itinerary is relaxed yet comprehensive, offering a blend of scenic walks, iconic photo ops, tasty local eats, and cultural exploration. For those who appreciate balancing activity with downtime and experiencing the local vibe, this route is a winner. Just remember comfortable shoes, early starts, and keeping your camera ready for those spontaneous NYC moments!
