🍲🦐🦀 New Orleans Shrimp & Crab Gumbo Recipe
This authentic seafood gumbo is rich, smoky, and packed with bold Cajun flavors. Made with shrimp, crab, and the signature dark roux, it’s the ultimate comfort food from Louisiana.

Ingredients:
1 lb shrimp (peeled & deveined) 🦐
1 lb blue crab meat 🦀
¾ cup vegetable oil
¾ cup all-purpose flour
2 medium onions (chopped) 🧅
1 green bell pepper (chopped) 🫑
2 celery stalks (chopped) 🌿
4 garlic cloves (minced) 🧄
6 cups seafood stock
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes 🍅
2 bay leaves 🍃
1 Tbsp Creole seasoning
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp smoked paprika
Salt & black pepper, to taste 🧂
1 cup sliced okra (optional, thickener)
1 Tbsp filé powder (optional)
For Serving:
Cooked white rice 🍚
Fresh parsley + green onions 🌿
Instructions:
1. Make the Roux: In a Dutch oven, stir oil + flour on medium-low for 20–30 min until deep chocolate brown.
2. Cook the Trinity: Add onion, pepper & celery; stir 5–7 min. Add garlic → cook 1–2 min.
3. Build the Base: Slowly add seafood stock. Stir in tomatoes, bay leaves, Creole seasoning, thyme & paprika. Simmer 45 min.
4. Add Seafood: Mix in crab + okra. Simmer 15 min. Add shrimp last → cook until pink (~5 min).
5. Finish: Remove from heat. Stir in filé powder if using. Discard bay leaves.
6. Serve: Ladle gumbo over white rice. Garnish with parsley & green onions.
