SYDNEY - THINGS TO DO HERE! (FREE or guided tour)

Today, I’m going to introduce you to the things that I did that were FREE, or Guided, in Sydney! Do remember to save this post so that you can refer to them if it is your first time, your solo trip, or you are finding for things to do in this city!

1. 📍(3rd pic) Sydney CBD area day tour! (FREE)

-take a leisurely walk beginning from the town hall area, from the St. Mary’s cathedral, interactive historical experience at Hyde Parks Barracks - There are many things to do!

2. 📍(4th pic) 1-day Day Tour to Blue Mountains 💯

-Highly recommended!

-Bought the Klook package for $95/pax, this was a full day tour where the tour guide picked me up from my accommodation, and subsequently dropped us off back in Sydney at night.

-This tour was a sunset full day tour - Kangaroos @ Wildlife park, Lincolns rock, Wentworth Falls trail (highlight!), Echo lookout point, Three Sisters, dinner, before heading back to Sydney.

- The tour guide was Greg who was THE BEST at explaining and taking care of everyone. Perfectly safe if you are a female solo traveller like myself.

3. 📍Bondi-Coogee walk (FREE)

-HIGHLY RECOMMEND. If you enjoy long walks with vast seas, blue skies, sandy beaches, to clear your mind! This was free too!

- Take a bus to Coogee beach. And then follow the 2hr long trail which has adequate signboards, and you will see fellow hikers / travellers which will be your sign to walk.

- I did this on my own and it was absolutely safe and beautiful! No regrets.

-Personally, the 3-4 beaches were all much more beautiful than Bondi Beach, which I dare say is flooded with many tourists and views were not as great compared to the beaches along the walk. Recommend to do this walk starting from Coogee > Bronte Beach > Waverly lookpoint > Tamamera > Bondi.

4. 📍SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

- Needless to say, you need to experience this at least once in your lifetime. You will not find this in any Asia countries, which are all digital screens

- Tickets are available on their website, and if you are a student or elderly, concession prices at as low as $60 are available!

5. 📍SYDNEY FISH MARKET

- Take a L1 Light Rail tram from Central or Townhall, to the Fish Market station.

- This market is known for the FRESHEST seafood available.

- You MUST try their lobsters and crab which are absolutely fresh.

6. 📍Hyde Park Barrack (FREE)

- 💯

- Right beside the St Mary Cathedral, this Barrack is a free museum experience that will take you through the entire history of Sydney and the ancestors who came onshore the Sydney Harbour waters in the 18th century.

- The total experience lasts 1.5hours. Via an audio listening guide which will bring you across the multiple exhibitions. Absolute stunning museum concept!

7. 📍Local Tour @ The Rocks (FREE)

- You can sign up for their local tour which is free. I signed up for the 6pm tour around the Rocks, which unlocked many hidden alleys, history of the various sites that are quite unknown if you are not familiar with the place (like a tourist like myself), mysteries and famous murder stories, and also an introduction to Sydney’s oldest pubs.

- As it took place during the night, the guide also brought us to the Observatory Deck overlooking the skyline, harbour, and opera house. The view was ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. 😍

- At the end of the tour, they will accept any form and amount of gratuities which is up to you, and of course, this was great for those on a budget. And compared to Klook which has a similar tour package for $47/pax, this is an absolute steal if you are on a budget, or travelling in large groups. Comment down below if you would like the link!

P.S./ those of you who’ve commented, am not able to respond to comments or message due to some privacy settings, so pls PM me or accept my PM request for the link 🥹

... Read moreIf you’re looking to explore Sydney beyond the usual tourist spots, I highly recommend taking advantage of the local Chapman Tours for a unique blend of city and nature experiences. These tours offer insightful guidance about Sydney’s history and culture, often focusing around areas near Town Hall, which coincidentally include some of my favorite free activities such as Hyde Park Barracks and the local walking tours around The Rocks. For foodies, while the article highlights Sydney Fish Market, I also stumbled across a great little spot called Macelleria in Bondi with a menu that perfectly complements a day at the beach. It’s not widely known yet, so combining a coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee with a meal here makes for a rewarding experience. Planning your visit around Town Hall unlocks easy access to multiple attractions and transport lines, including the L1 tram mentioned, which simplifies reaching the fish market and other areas. It’s an excellent starting point for a walking itinerary packed with history and vibrant city life. Remember, the key to enjoying Sydney on a budget and safely, especially as a solo traveler, is mixing free, self-guided experiences with occasional guided tours like the highly recommended Blue Mountains sunset tour. This balance gives you in-depth knowledge and local insights without breaking the bank.
