My transparent wellness journey: Punishment

I didn’t want to do anything today to be quite honest and I especially did NOT want to workout… but I did!

While sitting around like a mope, I reflected on my day. I realized the reason for feeling how I was feeling today was because I ate like sh*t! I didn’t take my meds today (did took my vitamins tho), I ate a homemade bagel bacon egg and cheese sandwich with coffee and creamer for breakfast, a medium mcchicken meal from McDonalds with a dr. Pepper for lunch, animal crackers that my son didn’t finish (because they were there I just had to eat them..), another coffee with creamer and a salad with a cheeseburger for dinner.

Mind you, I did not have one LICK of water until 5 pm today 😱. I know… it was bad, hence why I felt the way I felt.

Because of all the above and the fact I hadn’t gotten a single workout in besides a walk this week due to being sick, I decided to punish myself with a HIIT workout when I really didn’t want to. Do I think that working out is a punishment - No. Do I think working out is a punishment when I don’t want to - Yes. Tomorrow I will reward myself with a dance party and try to be more mindful in taking my medication, drinking water and proper nutrition to fuel my body.

On a positive note, it is 9:07pm and I have completed my punishment in full, drank 60 oz of water since 5 pm and also forgot to mention we did go on a short family walk today. #embracevulnerability #unfiltered #Lemon8Diary #healthylifestyle2024 #transparency #mywellnessjourney #wellness #real #letstalkaboutit #RealTalk

... Read moreGirl, I totally get those days where it feels like you've completely derailed your wellness journey! It's so easy to fall into the trap of mindless eating when you're feeling down or just busy. I’ve been there, staring at a half-eaten bag of chips thinking, 'How did I even get here?' The key, I've learned, isn't to beat yourself up, but to acknowledge it and then pivot. One thing that’s been a game-changer for me is understanding that one "bad" meal or even a "bad" day doesn't define your entire progress. It's a bump in the road, not the end of the journey. Instead of letting that guilt spiral into more unhealthy choices, try to hit the reset button. Forgive yourself, acknowledge what happened, and then focus on your very next meal or activity. Don't wait for Monday or next week; that next healthy choice starts *now*. Let's talk about hydration, because oh my goodness, what a difference it makes! Like you, I often find myself realizing late in the day that I've barely touched my water bottle. But that feeling of finally chugging water after 5 PM? Pure relief! I've started keeping a big water bottle with me everywhere – at my desk, in the car, even by my bed. Setting small hourly reminders on my phone helps too. Sometimes, adding a slice of lemon or cucumber makes it feel less like a chore and more like a refreshing treat. It truly impacts your energy levels, digestion, and even your mood. And the workout struggle? So real! There are countless times I've looked at my workout clothes with dread, thinking, 'I didn't want to...' and feeling utterly unmotivated. It’s tough when you feel like you have to do it as a "punishment" rather than a choice for your well-being. But sometimes, just starting is half the battle. Even if it's just 10 minutes, or putting on your workout gear and doing a few stretches, it can shift your mindset. I’ve found that high-energy, guided workouts like the "EASY 30 MIN BURN" or "BURN FAT EVERY DAY FOR 30 MINS" series can be fantastic because they tell you exactly what to do, removing the mental load. Remembering to take meds, vitamins, and truly fuel your body with proper nutrition isn't always easy, especially on hectic days. I try to set alarms or link it to a routine – like taking my meds right after brushing my teeth in the morning. For nutrition, a little bit of meal prep on weekends can save you from those last-minute, less-than-ideal choices during the week. Having healthy snacks readily available (not just animal crackers your kids left behind!) can also make a huge difference. Finally, embrace the post-workout feeling, even if it leaves you feeling like that exhausted child on the swing! That "Dripping in sweat" moment, even if it came from a "punishment" workout, is a testament to your resilience. It means you showed up for yourself, even when it was hard. Acknowledge that effort, because it’s those small victories that build momentum. Tomorrow is always a new day to make mindful choices and reward yourself with movement that feels good, whether it's a dance party or a peaceful walk.
