Am I the a$$hole?

Now, a precursor to the story, this occurred yesterday. I wanted to be removed from it emotionally and level headed so as to best articulate what I wanted to say. I will refrain from names, name calling, nor will I be stating gender as it is unnecessary.

Story time: While shopping at our local Walmart, we chose our usual human ran check out line. Naturally, I chose the shorter line, though it was a cashier we have had issues with before. While placing items on the belt, I stacked due to the cashier not moving it forward. That and I typically stack thinking it helps. Oh. My. God! Apparently that’s a BIG no-no to this cashier and I heard about it. They were rude with comments about how we aren’t to stack, it isn’t helpful. They were highly rude and complaining about us to us the entire time. When my father stated “one thing I’ve learned is the customer’s always right,” in a calm tone in an attempt to settle moods. The response was “yea but the customer could help by not stacking.” My fiancé spoke with management. We made note of them, and left very heated.

GUYS!! Am I the asshole? Do people not stack items on the belt to help save space and help the cashier?? To explain I mean, I had a frozen ready made pasta dinner with a package of Reese’s peanut butter hearts on top of it. That kind of stacking. Seriously, do you stack?

... Read moreShopping etiquette can vary greatly, and understanding the norms can prevent misunderstandings like the one experienced at Walmart. A common practice in many grocery stores is to stack items to expedite the checkout process, but not all cashiers appreciate this approach. Recently, shoppers have shared mixed experiences about interactions at self-checkout versus human-run lanes. Customers might feel frustrated when faced with unexpected rules, especially during busy times. In grocery shopping scenarios, communication with cashiers is key. It's essential to remain calm and open to suggestions, ensuring a smooth transaction. If an issue arises, addressing it politely and seeking to understand the cashier's perspective can often lead to a resolution. For those who frequently shop at stores like Walmart, being aware of store-specific policies, such as item stacking rules or checkout procedures, can enhance the overall shopping experience. Additionally, while some shoppers prefer to stack for efficiency, others argue it could lead to delays if the cashier must reorganize items. Open discussions on platforms like social media can provide insights into varying preferences and experiences, allowing customers to share their opinions on proper behavior in grocery stores, ensuring a respectful dialogue within the community.
