Can I get some advice

I have thick hair I haven’t dyed it in almost a year the problem I have is that if I wear it down it knots in the back. What I don’t understand is why I’ll brush it out and about 5 minutes later it’s knotted is there anything I can do to have it not do this I cut 4 inches off a few weeks ago it’s done this my entire life so I don’t wear it down often I don’t curl it or anything like that the curlyness in the pic is from having it in a spiral bun for a while any tips

... Read moreHaving thick hair can be a blessing and a challenge, particularly when it comes to managing knots and tangles. Considering your hair's texture and styling habits, here are some effective tips to keep your hair knot-free. 1. **Choose the Right Products**: Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for thick hair. Look for products that contain moisturizing ingredients like argan oil or shea butter, as they can help smooth the hair cuticle and reduce tangles. 2. **Detangle When Wet**: It's often easier to comb or brush your hair when it’s wet. Apply a leave-in conditioner or a detangling spray while your hair is damp to help glide the brush through without tugging. 3. **Use the Right Tools**: Opt for a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically designed for thick or curly hair. These tools can minimize breakage and make it easier to remove tangles without causing damage. 4. **Regular Trims**: While you've recently cut off some length, regular trims help remove split ends and prevent knots from forming in the first place. Aim for a trim every 6-8 weeks. 5. **Protective Styling**: Experiment with protective styles that keep hair up and reduce exposure to friction and environmental factors that may cause tangling. Try braids or loose buns to keep your hair managed while minimizing the chance of knots. 6. **Sleep with Care**: Use a silk or satin pillowcase, or wrap your hair in a silk scarf while you sleep. This can drastically reduce friction and prevent knots from forming overnight. 7. **Consider Professional Help**: If knots continue to be a recurring issue, consider consulting with a professional stylist who can offer personalized advice or treatments tailored to your hair type. Implementing these strategies can help you maintain luscious, knot-free thick hair while enjoying the versatility of wearing it down.

Try using different shampoo/conditioners. My wife has super curly hair and has to use specific types of shampoo/conditioners. Start with that. Good luck 👍🏼

When brushing, start from the ends and work your way up to the roots to prevent pulling at your hair. You could also try using a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush for a gentler experience. Hope this helps!
