anyone else love Epic?
here's a duet I made of Jorge's sillies #epic #epicthemusical
Have you heard about 'Epic: The Musical' and found yourself wondering, 'What is Epic about?' You're definitely not alone! This incredible online musical has taken the internet by storm, and I'm so excited to share my personal dive into its world with you. It's truly something special, and if you haven't explored it yet, you're in for a treat! At its heart, 'Epic: The Musical' is a modern retelling of Homer's ancient Greek epic poem, 'The Odyssey.' But don't let 'ancient Greek' scare you off! Creator Jorge Rivera-Herrans has masterfully reimagined this classic tale with a contemporary rock-opera flair, making it accessible, engaging, and incredibly emotional. He’s released the musical in a series of 'sagas,' each focusing on a different part of Odysseus's epic journey home after the Trojan War. It's a fantastic way to experience a timeless story with a fresh perspective. So, what's the story in a nutshell? It follows Odysseus, the cunning king of Ithaca, as he attempts to return to his beloved wife Penelope and son Telemachus after fighting in the Trojan War. However, his journey is far from straightforward. He faces wrath from powerful gods like Poseidon, encounters mythical creatures such as the Cyclops and the Sirens, and navigates treacherous lands, all while trying to keep his crew safe and find his way back home. Each saga explores a different challenge – from the land of the Lotus-Eaters to the Underworld. It's a story of perseverance, loyalty, pride, and the true meaning of heroism, packed with action and emotional depth. What I personally find so captivating about 'Epic' are the characters. Odysseus isn't just a hero; he's complex, flawed, strategic, and deeply dedicated to his family. The gods, like the powerful and vengeful Poseidon, or the wise Athena, are portrayed with such depth, making their motivations understandable, even when they're at odds with our hero. Then there are the supporting characters, both human and mythical, who add so much richness to the narrative. Jorge does an amazing job of giving even seemingly minor characters impactful moments that stick with you. But let's talk about the music! Oh my goodness, the music is absolutely phenomenal. Each song is a banger, blending rock, pop, and traditional musical theatre elements. The lyrics are clever, advancing the plot while also revealing deep emotional truths about the characters. I often find myself humming the tunes long after I've listened. The way Jorge uses different musical styles to represent different gods or situations is just brilliant. It truly pulls you into the story and makes you feel every high and low of Odysseus's incredible adventure. Beyond the story and music, 'Epic: The Musical' is also a testament to independent creation and the power of the internet. Jorge Rivera-Herrans started this project by himself, sharing snippets and songs online, and it has grown into a massive phenomenon with a dedicated fanbase. The community around 'Epic' is fantastic, with fans creating art, discussions, and even their own 'duets' – much like the one mentioned in the original post! It’s inspiring to see such a passionate collective celebrating this creative work. If you're looking for something new, exciting, and genuinely epic (pun intended!), I highly recommend checking it out. Trust me, once you start, you'll be hooked on Odysseus's journey just like I am!
