I’ve made it a goal in the last couple of years to cook a meal once a week from one of the many cookbooks we own. Last week I decided to slowly go through the cookbooks, and put a post it note on each recipe we’ve made. I think it’s so fun to go through cookbooks, and try something new for breakfast/lunch/dinner! I can’t wait to see how many new recipes I we cook this year! Here are a few of my favs. If you don’t own this cookbook, you should buy it! It’s soooo good, and HBH recipes never disappoint.

Half Baked Harvest recipes, for instance, are often my go-to for this because they consistently deliver on flavor and that cozy vibe. They often combine familiar ingredients in exciting ways, making even a weeknight dinner feel special. Beyond just cooking from them, I've also found new ways to interact with my cookbooks. Those post-it notes are fantastic for marking successful recipes, but I've also started a small cooking journal. I jot down notes about what I loved, what I changed, and who I shared the meal with. It’s like a personalized culinary diary! When I'm looking for a new cookbook, I usually flip through it first, checking for recipes that use ingredients I generally have on hand or dishes that look genuinely appealing. I also look for clear instructions – nothing worse than a recipe that leaves you guessing! And speaking of finding good recipes, how do you know if a dish is going to be a '10/10 YES!' before you even start? For me, a quick scan of reviews online can be super helpful, especially for popular cookbooks. But honestly, sometimes it’s just a gut feeling. Does the ingredient list sound appealing? Are the steps logical? I've found that recipes from trusted sources, like Half Baked Harvest (seriously, those recipes never disappoint!), tend to have a higher success rate. For example, a recipe for saucy garlic peanut noodles with sesame sweet potatoes might sound fancy, but if it comes from a reliable source, chances are it's designed to be approachable and delicious. For anyone intimidated by cooking, or if you're looking for practical, no-fuss recipes that anyone in the kitchen can master, simple tricks make a huge difference. Sheet pan meals are a lifesaver, cutting down on dishes and prep. The sheet pan French toast with whipped lemon ricotta and juicy berries I tried recently was a game-changer for brunch – minimal effort, maximum deliciousness!
