Why Traditional Mental Health Advice Feels Bad

2024/11/26 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, let's be real. Have you ever been caught in that frustrating loop of an 'evasive thought process'? You know, those thoughts that just dance around the real issue, making you feel stuck and unable to move forward? I used to feel absolutely drained by them. I’d try all the typical mental health advice – 'just breathe,' 'reframe your thoughts,' 'let it go' – and honestly, sometimes it just made me feel worse, like I was broken for not being able to make it work. It’s not that traditional advice is bad, but for certain situations, especially when you’re dealing with something that feels inherently unfair or deeply personal, it can feel dismissive. It’s like being told to calm down when your entire nervous system is screaming, 'This isn't right!' That’s where I started to realize that sometimes, you need a different kind of 'hack' to break free from that evasive thought process. What if instead of always trying to be gentle with these thoughts, we tap into a more assertive energy? There's a particular kind of 'fuel to stand your ground' that we often overlook. It's not about being aggressive in a negative way, but about reclaiming your power. Think of it as a healthy, protective 'nervous system response' – that immediate gut feeling that says, 'Enough is enough.' I call it the 'F*%k You Energy' – not in an angry, destructive sense, but as a powerful assertion of self-worth. It’s that internal declaration that you refuse to be diminished, manipulated, or trapped by these circling, evasive thoughts. It’s the energy that empowers you to say, 'I'm not going to entertain this anymore; I deserve clarity and peace.' This doesn't mean becoming hostile to others, but rather cultivating an inner fierceness to protect your mental space. When you activate this feeling, it becomes your 'fuel to stand your ground.' It helps you cut through the noise of an 'evasive thought process' and identify what you truly need to address. This might involve setting firmer boundaries, acknowledging your legitimate feelings without judgment, or finally 'speaking your mind' to yourself about what’s really bothering you. It's about channeling that initial surge of protective energy into constructive action, turning what feels like a disruptive 'nervous system response' into a clear call for self-advocacy. So, if you're tired of conventional approaches leaving you feeling unheard when dealing with evasive thoughts, consider shifting your perspective. Sometimes, the most healing thing you can do is to acknowledge that powerful, protective energy within you and use it as a 'hack' to move forward. You have the right to demand clarity and to stand firmly in your truth.
