INSTEAD OF BALI…

If you’re loving the vibes of Bali, but want something a little more tranquil - try Raja Ampat in Indonesia!

This hidden paradise has some of the BEST snorkeling and scuba diving in the world! There is something like 1,000 different species of fish, and 3/4 of all kinds of coral can be found here.

If you like to stay above water, you can also:

-relax on a beach

-go kayaking

-book a boat tour to island hop

-go wilderness trekking

-visit local villages for some culture

It’s definitely worth checking out!!

... Read moreAfter my incredible trip to Raja Ampat, I just have to share more about why it's the ultimate Indonesia holiday destination, especially if you're looking beyond the usual spots. It's truly a hidden gem, and planning a trip there can seem daunting, but it's so worth it! Why Raja Ampat for Your Next Holiday? Unlike some busier Indonesian spots, Raja Ampat offers genuine serenity. Imagine waking up to the sound of waves, surrounded by those iconic lush green islands rising from clear blue waters – it’s a world away from the crowds. For me, the diving and snorkeling were simply unparalleled. I saw so many colorful fish, and the vibrant coral reefs are truly breathtaking. It's not just a holiday; it's an immersion into an incredible natural world where three-quarters of all coral species thrive, making every dive an educational adventure. Getting There & Around: So, how do you get to this paradise? It usually involves flying into Sorong (SOQ) in West Papua, Indonesia. From there, you’ll take a ferry or a smaller boat to your chosen island or dive resort. It might sound like a journey, but trust me, every step gets you closer to an unforgettable experience. Once there, most resorts arrange boat transfers, and island hopping tours are easy to book, allowing you to explore the myriad of islands. Best Time to Visit: I found that the best time to visit Raja Ampat is typically from October to April, when the seas are calmer and the weather is generally dry. This period offers the best visibility for diving and snorkeling, as well as ideal conditions for exploring above water. However, diving is excellent year-round, so don't let dates deter you too much, just be prepared for potential rain outside peak season. Accommodation & Budget: Accommodation ranges from charming local homestays (a great way to experience local culture and often more budget-friendly!) to eco-friendly resorts. While it can be pricier than other parts of Indonesia due to its remote nature and conservation efforts, there are options for various budgets. I stayed at a lovely bungalow right over the water, which was pure bliss after a day of exploring and offered direct access to the sea. Activities Beyond Diving: Beyond the incredible underwater world, there’s so much to do. I loved paddleboarding through calm lagoons, admiring the dramatic limestone karsts that seem to erupt from the ocean. Don't miss a boat trip to see the famous mushroom-shaped islands from above – the aerial views are just stunning, especially at sunset! Trekking through the jungle to find hidden waterfalls or visiting local villages to learn about their traditions also added so much depth to my trip. It truly felt like an adventure, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. For anyone dreaming of an Indonesian holiday that combines adventure, relaxation, and unparalleled natural beauty, Raja Ampat should be at the top of your list. It’s an investment in experiences, and honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. If you're ready for an escape that redefines paradise, this is it!
