... Read moreOkay, so you're looking for that super quick, minimal ingredient fix, right? My recipe here uses just a few more ingredients than five if you count everything, but stick with me – it's still incredibly simple and totally customizable! If you really want to hit that '5 ingredients' mark, you can totally simplify. For example, if you already have self-rising flour, you might not need separate baking powder. Or, for a super basic version, you can skip the cocoa powder and just let the rich chocolatey goodness of the Oreos shine! The microwave is your best friend for this dessert, but it can be a bit tricky! Every microwave is different, so that 60-90 second timing is a guide. I usually start with 60 seconds, then check. If it's still too gooey on the edges but firming up, I'll do another 10-15 seconds. You want it cooked through but still super moist and fudgy in the center – not dry! Over-microwaving is the enemy of a good mug cake. Mine usually takes around 75 seconds for that perfect, slightly gooey texture. Also, make sure your mug isn't too small; it will puff up a lot! I learned that the hard way with an overflow disaster once! 😂 Speaking of Oreos, the recipe calls for crushing them, but don't be afraid to experiment! I sometimes like to crush about '4 Oreos' for the base and then gently 'fold in all ingredients', but then sneak a whole 'oreo in the middle' before microwaving. It gives you this amazing molten Oreo center! So decadent! You can also save a crushed Oreo piece for topping. For sweetness, '1 tbsp sugar' is a great starting point, but it's totally adjustable. If you like it less sweet, try 1/2 tbsp. If your Oreos are sweet enough for you, you can even skip the added sugar sometimes, especially if you're adding other sweet toppings. After it's out of the microwave, a little dusting of 'powder sugar' makes it look super fancy, even though it took literally no effort. Or, a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream is always a winner. And for a fun twist, if you're feeling adventurous, a sprinkle of shredded coconut flakes (if 'conut' was on your mind!) on top before or after microwaving can add a lovely texture and flavor. Or, a few chocolate chips mixed in before cooking, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup afterwards are also fantastic additions! This recipe is so forgiving. Don't stress too much about exact measurements after the first try. You'll quickly figure out what works best for your microwave and your taste buds. It’s truly the ultimate comfort dessert when you need something sweet *right now*.
