... Read moreFrom my own experience collecting blind boxes, I can definitely relate to the excitement and anticipation described here. Every time I pick up a new box, I find myself shaking it gently, trying to guess which character might be inside. That moment of uncertainty triggers a rush, as the brain releases dopamine not only when we actually get a reward, but also when there’s a chance of getting one. This variable reward system is similar to what gamblers experience with slot machines or lottery tickets—it’s the unpredictability that keeps us hooked. I also noticed how social media and community hype fuel this addiction even further. Sharing my rare pulls or seeing others’ collections online makes the experience more rewarding emotionally and socially. The collecting culture creates a sense of belonging and makes the blind box experience more than just shopping—it becomes a shared adventure. However, understanding the brain science behind it helped me realize when to set limits. Blind boxes are designed to activate our brain’s reward systems, so it's easy to get carried away wanting 'just one more.' But once you’re aware of this mechanism, you can enjoy collecting mindfully, appreciating the thrill without losing control. It truly helped me strike a balance between excitement and caution. If you find yourself obsessing over blind boxes, it might be worth reflecting on this psychological aspect. This doesn’t mean everyone who enjoys them has a problem, but awareness can prevent blind boxes from turning into a compulsive habit. In short, recognizing the role of dopamine and variable rewards in this fun hobby can make your collecting experience both joyful and responsible.

I used to think rest was something I had to fly out for. A quiet morning. A slower pace. A meal without rushing. A day where I didn’t have to be “on” all the time. Maybe that’s why I enjoy travelling without an itinerary. No packed schedule. No need to maximise every hour. No pressure
