7 Controversial Things I Believe As A Parent

5 days agoEdited to

... Read moreAs a parent navigating the complex world of raising children today, I've found that embracing controversial opinions can actually open up healthier conversations and reduce pressure on moms and dads alike. For example, on the topic of feeding, I completely relate to the sentiment that "fed is fed." Personally, when I was choosing how to feed my baby, I tried breastfeeding and formula feeding, eventually settling on a combo that suited both of our needs. The pressure around "breast is best" felt overwhelming, but knowing that the ultimate goal is a well-fed and happy baby took some of the stress away. Communication about body parts using proper names was something I initially hesitated to address, thinking kids might find it embarrassing or awkward. Yet over time, I realized that teaching anatomical terms fosters better body awareness and helps children communicate clearly, which is crucial for their safety and confidence. Regarding co-sleeping, my experience affirmed that it can be done safely with the right precautions. I always remind fellow parents that babies are little for such a short time, and closeness during the night can bring comfort to both. Learning safe co-sleeping methods has really empowered me to parent without shame. Technology is another hot topic. Banning screens completely seemed unrealistic, so setting boundaries and teaching responsible use felt like a practical approach. Kids today will inevitably encounter technology, so preparing them with healthy habits serves them well. One practical tip I highly endorse is investing in conveniences like a Baby Brezza. When I'm exhausted in the wee hours, having a machine that prepares formula quickly makes a world of difference. Motherhood doesn't have to be unnecessarily hard to be valid! Public correction of children was something I had to get used to. I've found that calmly and firmly addressing unsafe or disrespectful behavior—even in public—sets important boundaries and models respect for others. Parenting loudly when needed is not something to shy away from. Lastly, embracing the idea that there are girl things, boy things, and gender-neutral things helped me raise my children with an appreciation for their unique interests without ignoring meaningful differences. It’s about finding a balance between recognizing individuality and preparing them to understand social realities. Sharing these thoughts honestly has brought me closer to other parents who value openness and respect in parenting diversity. It's okay to have different approaches—as long as we're focused on loving and nurturing our kids, each family's journey can be valid and rewarding.

Controversial things I do as a parent 🩵
Parenthood isn’t one-size-fits-all. At the end of the day, do what makes your baby happy and what works for your family. Don’t let society or “rules” make you feel like you have to parent a certain way. Every child is different, and so is every parent, and that’s okay. #parenting #parentsoftikt

i’ve been looking a lot into banned and challenged books and what that exactly means. when a book is banned, that means that it has been removed from a collection (something like a library or state) due to a challenge to its content, morals, or themes. have any of you read any of these? what did
