... Read moreOkay, so I just HAVE to talk about the Maple Hills Novel series by Hannah Grace! I've been seeing these books everywhere, and I finally dove in. You might have seen my quick take that Wildfire was definitely my favorite, and I stand by that 100%! The OCR even caught that it was 'MY FAV' from my original post, and honestly, it truly captured my heart in a way Icebreaker didn't quite manage.
Let's talk about Wildfire first. From the moment I picked it up, I was hooked. The storyline centers around a summer camp setting, which the book's cover beautifully depicts with a couple in a camp environment. It gave me all the nostalgic feels of summer adventures and first loves. The characters, Russ and Aurora, have such incredible chemistry, and their journey felt so authentic. I'm a huge fan of second-chance romance, and this one delivered perfectly. Aurora's growth throughout the book, combined with Russ's protective yet slightly grumpy demeanor, made for such a compelling read. I loved how Hannah Grace built up their history and slowly unveiled their feelings. The banter was top-notch, and some of the emotional moments really hit me. If you're looking for a heartwarming, steamy, and truly engaging read with a charming camp backdrop, Wildfire is absolutely the one to go for in the Maple Hills series. It's the kind of book you want to reread on a cozy weekend.
Now, onto *Icebreaker*. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad book by any means! The premise of an ice skater falling for a hockey player (which the cover illustrates so well with ice skaters!) is classic and appealing. Anastasia and Nathan's story had a lot of potential, and I enjoyed the initial push and pull. The sports romance aspect was well-executed, especially the competitive but supportive environment. However, for me personally, something about the pacing felt a little off, and I didn't connect with the characters' emotional arcs as deeply as I did with Russ and Aurora in *Wildfire*. It felt a bit slower to get into, and while there were some sweet moments, it just didn't spark that same 'MY FAV' feeling. Perhaps it was just a matter of personal taste, as I know many readers absolutely adore *Icebreaker*.
Overall, the Maple Hills Novel series from Hannah Grace is a delightful collection if you're into new adult romance. Both books offer charming characters and engaging plots, but if you're asking for my honest opinion, Wildfire truly shines brighter for me. It's the kind of book that leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling and makes you want to immediately check for anything else the author has written. If you're diving into the Maple Hills world, I'd suggest starting with Wildfire if you prefer a more emotionally resonant, second-chance romance with a unique setting. But for those who love a classic sports romance with plenty of tension and a dash of ice rink drama, Icebreaker is still worth a read. Either way, you're in for a treat with Hannah Grace's storytelling!
