Yoga is a comprehensive system of health and physical development that likely originated long before the formalization of the Vedic religion or Hinduism. Historical evidence suggests that the physical practices associated with Yoga began as tribal health maintenance routines among indigenous peoples. These early practitioners developed specific movements and breathing patterns to ensure survival and physical readiness in harsh environments. As these techniques evolved, they formed the structural foundation of what would later be integrated into larger religious frameworks.
A recognizable use of Yoga as a tool for survival can be seen in the development of techniques for internal heat regulation. Similar to specialized practices like Tummo, these methods were developed by early practitioners to survive in extreme cold weather. By using specific breath control and muscle contractions, tribal groups could maintain their core body temperature and physical function in environments that would otherwise be fatal. This practical application demonstrates that the mechanics of Yoga were originally designed for biological preservation and environmental adaptation.

NOTE: My Yoga was derived from the Yoga postures that were part of my Martial Arts training. I supplemented theory of Yoga with a Himalayan Yogi Guru and a Hindu Yogi Guru. I didn't partake of their religious or spiritual practices. I just went over theory with them so that I could filter the physical reality of the practice from the religious hearsay by using my scientific and engineering background to cut out the mystical noise.
Spiritual Ethos:
From a Christian perspective, the physical practice of Yoga can be seen as a way to honor the temple that GOD has provided. YAHWEH created the human body with intricate systems that respond to movement and breath, and maintaining this gift is a form of stewardship. When the practitioner focuses on the health and vitality of their body, they are preparing themselves to better serve Him and the Church. By recognizing that these health practices predate later religious systems, the believer can utilize them to strengthen their physical being while keeping their heart centered on the Truth of GOD and His Word.
