Facing a baby due date has given me a strong sense of urgency to prepare, which aligns perfectly with how my brain thrives under timed goals. This has motivated me to get everything in order without feeling overwhelmed—though admittedly, I sometimes leave tasks to the last minute, I still manage to meet my goals, which feels like a win during an emotionally unpredictable time. Perhaps my favorite ADHD trait during pregnancy is hyperfocus, especially when it comes to researching labor and baby care. This intense focus allows me to dive deep into credible resources, ask informed questions, and develop a well-rounded understanding of what to expect. It transforms what could be an anxious uncertainty into an exciting learning adventure and helps me feel more confident and prepared. For fellow neurodivergent parents or those with ADHD who are expecting, my advice is to recognize and harness the strengths within your unique brain wiring. Instead of fighting ADHD symptoms, lean into them to find new ways of managing pregnancy stresses. Using tools like reminders, structured plans keyed to your deadlines, and dedicated research time can empower you. Sharing my story has been part of a bigger conversation about ADHD awareness and pregnancy, emphasizing that neurodivergent experiences are valid and valuable.
