This still makes me laugh so hard. His brain doesn’t brain at all times. And he deliberately plays dumb to try and get me to do shit for him.
From my own experience, teenage brains really do seem like they're in a constant state of chaos and transformation. It's as if parts of their brain are under construction, which matches well with the idea of "TEENAGE BRAIN" and "RE-WIRING IN PROCESS". This stage can lead to hilarious moments where teens act like they don’t understand something just to avoid responsibility or to sneak a favor, which I can definitely relate to! I’ve noticed that patience and a good sense of humor become essential tools for surviving this period. One thing that helped me was understanding that this so-called "playing dumb" is often a way for teens to test boundaries and communicate in their own unique ways. Their prefrontal cortex—the part responsible for decision-making and self-control—is still developing, so sometimes their actions seem baffling or deliberately annoying. But beneath that, they crave support and engagement from us as parents. Sharing experiences and laughs about these parenting challenges can create closer bonds and help both sides navigate the often tricky teenage years. Embracing the quirks of the teenage brain made me appreciate my teen’s growth more and taught me not to take these moments too seriously. After all, the teenage brain is busy rewiring for all the amazing things ahead!
