Outgrowing a close friend?

We’ve been best friends for years, but something’s changed. I don’t know if it’s her, me, or both—but lately, being around her just feels… draining.

The jokes don’t land like they used to. Her attitude feels off. And half the time, I feel judged or lowkey dismissed. I hate admitting it, but I think I’m starting to outgrow her.

I’m not sure if I should talk to her or just let things fade.

Has anyone else gone through this?

... Read moreOutgrowing a close friend is a common experience that can be confusing and emotionally challenging. It often starts subtly, like when jokes that used to make you both laugh now miss the mark, or when you begin to feel judged or dismissed instead of supported. These feelings may stem from changes in personal growth, different life paths, or evolving values. Recognizing these signs early can help you make thoughtful decisions about your relationship. Communication is key in navigating this transition. Honest conversations about how you feel can clarify misunderstandings and reveal if your friend is experiencing similar sentiments. However, sometimes friendships naturally drift apart as people change, and that's a healthy part of life. Evaluating if the friendship still adds value and joy to your life is important. If you suspect you're outgrowing a close friend, consider reflecting on your own growth and emotional needs. Seeking support from other social circles or new friendships can also provide fresh perspectives and fulfillment. Remember, it’s normal to outgrow friendships, and approaching the situation with empathy and respect benefits everyone involved. Keywords like 'outgrowing a close friend,' 'friendship changes,' 'emotional distance in friendships,' and 'how to handle fading friendships' are relevant to this topic and can help those searching for advice on similar experiences find this article. Using these in your conversation or search can provide more targeted support and community insights on managing friendship transitions.

Girl I’m going through the same thing. I feel guilty and somehow relieved at the same time. She always gets mad at me for “not putting in enough effort” but as the only person texting or calling (minimum once a week) and then never getting replies… I’m kinda over it.

I think that’s where my friendships with a few people started to fade- and I lived together with one of them- but my best friend started feeling so draining and trying to change me into who she wanted 🤷🏽‍♀️ I gave it 3 months before making my choice to go our separate ways
