Listen to Be: 4 Listening Levels Change Lives
Listening is not just a matter of "ear," it is a matter of "heart." We all listen, but a few people truly listen. Deep listening is not just about perceiving words, but opening up to understand other people, and ultimately to understand ourselves more.
.
Will the journey to becoming a better listener help us build more meaningful relationships with our peers - friends, family, or lovers - ready to learn the four levels of listening that will change your life forever?
.
👂 Level 1: Surficial Listening (Ignoring / Pretending)
It's the worst level of listening, because we're just pretending to be listening, thinking about something else, or messing with the phone, but we're saying, "Well, yeah," or "Oh, I see," which actually doesn't understand anything.
.
👂 Level 2: Listen to Retaliation (Selective / Competitive)
We only listen to the parts we care about or the parts we use to counter, we listen to them to wait for the rhythm to interrupt, or to give us advice that we think is best for us, not really interested in what the person wants.
.
👂 Level 3: Listen to Understand (Attentive / Emphatic)
This level is really attentive listening. We will listen to every word, try to understand what the other person feels, not just what they say. This listening will help us deepen our understanding of other people's views.
.
👂 Level 4: Deep / Global Listening
This is the highest level of listening. We listen with feelings and instincts, listening not just to words, but to the tones, emotions, and feelings hidden behind them, allowing us to truly connect with other people, just as we can experience silence in a speech-free conversation.
.
Listening to the third and fourth levels will definitely help us to be better friends, lovers or colleagues, because when we listen carefully, the person in front will feel the importance of ourselves.
.
Let's start by putting your phone on and looking your conversation partner in the eye and knowing how true listening helps make the world a better place!
