Choose yourself!
It’s not selfish to choose yourself! You’ve given so much to other people and made countless sacrifices. You’ve done that for people who didn’t even deserve it, but don’t regret it. Everything you did you did out of love and compassion. Now it’s time to do what’s right for yourself.
I remember a time when the thought of 'choosing myself' felt incredibly selfish. I'd spent years pouring into others, forgiving over and over again, even when faced with broken promises, deception, and feeling disrespected. Sound familiar? We often believe that putting our own needs first means we're neglecting someone else, or that it’s a sign of arrogance. But let me tell you, from personal experience, choosing yourself is not being selfish; it's quite the opposite – it’s one of the greatest ways to show self-love. For too long, I let myself be taken for granted. I thought my worth was tied to how much I sacrificed, how much I gave, even when those around me weren't reciprocating. This pattern often leaves us feeling depleted, resentful, and far from the happy, vibrant person we truly are. It’s a harsh realization to come to terms with the fact that you might be in situations where you’re constantly giving without receiving, stuck in a cycle that feels like a curse. But you know what? There's only one you! And that unique, precious person deserves to be nurtured and prioritized. So, what does it actually mean to 'choose your self' and how do you start? It begins with recognizing that your well-being is paramount. It means setting healthy boundaries, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. For me, that meant learning to say "no" to commitments that drained my energy or didn't align with my values. It meant stepping away from relationships that consistently left me feeling disrespected or unappreciated. It wasn't easy, and sometimes I felt immense guilt, but the freedom and peace that followed were worth every difficult conversation. Another crucial aspect is reclaiming your time and energy. This could look like dedicating an hour each day to something you genuinely enjoy, whether it’s reading, exercising, or pursuing a hobby. It might mean prioritizing your mental health by seeking therapy or practicing mindfulness. It's about consciously nurturing your spirit and body, understanding that you are deserving of care. The OCR said, 'It's your time!' – and it truly is. This isn't about abandoning others but about ensuring you have enough in your own cup to share authentically, rather than from a place of depletion. Ultimately, choosing yourself is about releasing the curse of past hurts and expectations. It's about understanding that the blessed love you deserve is waiting on you to make this shift. When you value yourself, others learn to value you too. When you practice self-love, you become a magnet for healthier relationships and more fulfilling experiences. It’s a journey, not a destination, but every step you take towards prioritizing yourself builds a stronger, happier, and more authentic you. Don't wait for permission; give it to yourself now. Your future self will thank you.
