ditl of a commuter college student 𐙚
Hey everyone! I often get questions like, 'what is a commuter school?' or 'what does it mean to commute to college?' So, I wanted to share my personal experience and clarify what being a commuter college student is all about. For me, it means living at home (or off-campus independently) and traveling to my university each day for classes and campus activities, rather than living in a dorm. My daily routine as a commuter is definitely unique. Unlike students who live on campus, my day doesn't start with just rolling out of bed and walking to class. Instead, it involves planning my travel time, dealing with traffic or public transport, and making sure I have everything I need for the entire day. For instance, my 'research methods in psychology' class requires me to be on campus for a good chunk of time, and then I might have other sessions or meetups. It's a constant juggle to optimize my schedule to make the commute worthwhile. One of the biggest questions I hear is 'what is a commuter student's life like?' It's a blend of independence and responsibility. I save money on housing and meal plans, which is a huge plus, but I also have to be very disciplined with my time management. It’s easy to feel a bit disconnected from campus life sometimes, so I make an extra effort to participate. That's why moments like having 'lunch with Bianca!' are so important – they help me build connections and feel more engaged with my peers, even if I'm not living in the dorms. For anyone considering becoming a commuter student, or if you're just curious about 'commuting to college,' here are a few tips from my journey: Pack your essentials like snacks, water, and chargers to avoid unnecessary trips home. Utilize campus resources like libraries or student lounges for study breaks between classes. And most importantly, make an effort to socialize! Join clubs, attend events, and schedule meetups with friends, just like I do with lunch dates. Being a commuter student is a valid and often rewarding college experience that teaches you a lot about self-reliance and time management.
