The Obsession Book Review 🇸🇬📼🏫

⭐️Overall rating: 4/5:

This was a very interesting read I loved every second of it! This kinda gave Joe Goldberg vibes.

Unfortunately there isn’t an epilogue which was upsetting because the ending made me wonder what happened next. I am not sure if the author will continue the story from where she left off. There’s a second book BUT it’s not about another character.

I overall just wish the author had given us more but I understand that she probably left it “open” in case she wants to finish the story or not.

** I will be doing research and seeing if there’s another book.

Please look at the trigger warnings before reading!

🏫 GR: 3.7⭐️

🏫Synopsis:

A classic sort of love story... except somebody might wind up dead.

Nobody knows Delilah like Logan does. Nobody. He makes sure of it by learning everything he can through her social media and watching her through a hidden camera he has trained on her house. Some might call him a stalker. Logan prefers to be called “romantic.”

But after Logan sees Delilah killing her abusive stepfather, he realizes there’s still more about her to discover. His sweet, perfect Delilah isn’t so perfect after all.

Delilah knows she should feel guilty, but all she feels is free. She’s so over the men in her life controlling her. Except Logan saw what she did, and he won’t let her forget it.

Delilah is done being the victim. And she refuses to be a character in Logan’s twisted fantasy. If Logan won’t let her go… she’ll make him.

🏫Trigger warnings:

Domestic abuse (physical, emotional)

Death of a parent (past: the main character father passed prior to the start of the story)

Drug abuse

Murder (semi-graphic)

OD (past,mentioned)

sexual assault (mentioned)

Stalking

Suicide (mentioned)

... Read moreBeyond the chilling synopsis and intense plot, The Obsession delves deep into the complexities of trauma and obsession. I found the portrayal of Logan as an unsettlingly romantic stalker both fascinating and disturbing, which added layers to the storytelling that reminded me of popular psychological thrillers like Joe Goldberg’s story. The book doesn’t shy away from difficult themes like domestic abuse, drug use, and violence, which gives it a raw authenticity, though it might be heavy for some readers. One thing I appreciated was how the story explores Delilah's journey from victimhood to empowerment. Her struggle to break free from Logan’s controlling obsession presents a gripping character arc filled with tension and emotional depth. The absence of an epilogue left me eager for a sequel, hoping the unresolved ending will be continued by the author. Also, the setting elements - such as the boarding school and the dark secrets surrounding Delilah’s past - enrich the background and create a moody atmosphere that enhances the thriller aspect. The inclusion of social media surveillance adds a modern twist to the obsession theme, highlighting how technology can blur lines between love and control. For readers wondering about the book's spice level, while the romance is intense and emotionally charged, the focus leans more toward psychological thriller than explicit content. It’s more about the tension and danger lurking beneath the surface than steamy scenes. Overall, if you’re into dark romance or thrillers that examine complicated human emotions wrapped in suspense, The Obsession by Jesse Q. Sotanto is worth your time. Just prepare yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions and some heart-pounding moments. I highly recommend it for fans seeking a fresh but hauntingly intense read.
