💭 My Thoughts: I am a big fan of Nora Robert’s, but I am unsure what happened with this one. The book begins great in the first few chapters telling the story of the main characters childhood, but once it skipped to her adult years it seemed to drag on. The loved interest also originally seemed to have potential originally but overtime become an a-hole in the way he spoke and treated her, which I don’t think is the way she meant for him to be seen. As you read on the book became predictable and the characters seemed to be lacking some common sense.
⭐️ Star Rating: 2/5

... Read moreI totally get how frustrating it can be when a highly anticipated book by a favorite author doesn't quite hit the mark, as mentioned in the review. But let's dive deeper into what makes Nora Roberts such a powerhouse in the literary world and explore 'The Obsession' from a few more angles, especially if you're like me and curious about her work!
First off, if you're wondering 'what genre is The Obsession,' it's firmly a thriller, often blending suspense with romance, a signature Nora Roberts move. Thrillers usually thrive on tension, mystery, and high stakes, keeping you on the edge of your seat. While the original review found the pacing dragged after a strong start, many Nora Roberts fans appreciate her detailed character development, which can sometimes lead to a slower build-up. The premise of Naomi Bowes uncovering her father's dark past and then trying to escape it, only for it to resurface, is classic thriller material. It's about a woman finding strength and healing, often with a protective love interest like Xander Keaton, even if his portrayal here left something to be desired for the reviewer. This 'opposites attract' dynamic is incredibly common in her romance-thriller hybrids, as protagonists often find love amidst danger.
Another common search query I've seen is about the book cover – and for good reason! The visual elements often tell you a lot about the book's mood. I've seen the teal cover with bare trees and a shadowy figure, and it perfectly encapsulates the gothic suspense and isolated feeling that Naomi experiences in Sunrise Cove. These visuals are chosen to evoke mystery and foreboding, hinting at the dark secrets within the story. It really sets the tone before you even read the first page, drawing you into the thriller aspect. Plus, for those who prefer physical copies, 'The Obsession' by Nora Roberts is widely available in paperback, making it an accessible read for many.
Nora Roberts is incredibly prolific, and while 'The Obsession' is a standalone novel, she's famous for her captivating series, too. If you're looking to explore her other works, you'll find everything from family sagas to paranormal romances. While 'The Obsession' isn't part of a larger series, she has many beloved trilogies and quartets, which might be why some people search for 'Nora Roberts the Obsession series in order' – they expect her books to be part of a grander narrative because she's so well-known for them! Books like 'Nightshade,' 'Temptation,' or 'Storm Warning' are other titles that pop up when you look into her vast bibliography, showcasing her range across different themes and subgenres. It's truly impressive how many worlds she's created!
Even if 'The Obsession' didn't resonate with everyone, my advice for tackling an author with such a huge backlist is to always check out a few different books or read diverse reviews. Sometimes, a specific book just isn't for you, even if the author generally is. Reading reviews, like this one, helps you set expectations. So, whether you're intrigued by the summary or curious about the thriller elements, giving 'The Obsession' a try, or exploring Nora Roberts' other highly-rated works, could still lead to your next great read!
