From my own experience working with clients and in my personal life, I've learned that trying to force someone to change their health habits rarely works. No matter how much you care, if the other person isn't ready or willing, your efforts may push them away instead of helping. I've seen this happen with close friends and family. What has helped me is accepting that everyone has their own timeline for change. Often, a person needs to reach a certain low point or a moment of realization on their own before they commit to transforming their health. Until then, the best thing you can do is lead by example — consistently showing up as a healthy, positive influence without pressuring them. It can be frustrating when you see people you care about struggling, but remember the saying, “A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still.” Change must be self-motivated to stick long term. In the meantime, staying patient and supportive creates an environment where your healthy habits can eventually inspire them to take their own steps toward better health. Also, don’t underestimate small, positive moments like sharing a healthy meal, inviting them for a walk, or simply checking in with kindness. Those subtle actions can plant seeds of motivation. Ultimately, your consistency becomes a beacon that may shine a light when they’re ready to change. So keep showing up, stay hydrated, and trust the process.
