Do not remember your past
This morning I woke up from a dream I had about the past. This dream woke me up earlier than my alarm but I stayed up because the situation in my dream is something that always leads to bad thoughts and a bad day whenever I’m reminded of it or think of it myself. While I was writing this I went to go find a verse for encouragement to help myself and you get through these thoughts of the past and to my surprise the first verse I see tells us this: “do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past”. Today I woke up thinking about the past but this dream did not come out of nowhere. Yesterday I allowed myself to ponder on the past long enough that it stayed in my thoughts while sleeping and tried to down me again when I woke up. Today, by his word, God tells us to not remember the former things and to not ponder on the past. When I ponder on the past it leads me to present time regrets and worries for the future but God has an answer for this as well. He says “listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. Giving so much room in our mind to the past leaves little to no room for the things that God is trying to do for us now and today. Think of your past as a story on a piece of paper, a story that is all messed up in whatever way. Now take your paper, ball it up, and throw it out. God has something new for us so this time let him right the story and put your trust in him because when we feel lost he will make a clear road for us, and when we feel drained and dry he will refresh our mind and spirit.
