The spread leaf stage is between the sword (mackerel tail) and the peslad leaf stage. It is when the leaves begin to unfold to light green. The cells and structure of the leaves including the stomata are not fully developed, making photosynthetic and nutrient conveying capabilities not as good as old leaves.

Since the leaves are still unable to generate enough food, fertilizer must be added to nourish and food is constantly added to the durian tree.
Fertilizer focuses on complete nutrients, always using formulated fertilizers such as 15-15-15 or 16-16-16 to help nourish the plant with green leaves and enlarge leaf size.
It is filled with leafy nutrients such as zinc, manganese, iron, calcium-boron to accelerate the leaves to dark and complete green.
Enemy insects that spread in the leaf stage include
1. Aphids, larvae and adults destroy the durian in the young leaf stage. Aphids suck up the vitreous water, which is seen along the midleaf line. The midleaf line is brown, making the leaves crepuscular. If severe, it can cause the young leaves to fall.

2. Bantam aphids will destroy the young leaves of durian, causing yellow spots, kink leaves and fall.

หลายคนถามว่า “ระยะใบทุเรียน/ระยะใบอ่อนทุเรียน หน้าตายังไง” โดยเฉพาะช่วงใบกาง เพราะเป็นช่วงคาบเกี่ยวจาก “ใบดาบ (หางปลาทู)” ที่ยังเป็นเส้นเรียว ๆ ไปสู่ใบที่เริ่มคลี่แผ่นออกมาเต็มขึ้น ใบกางมักเห็นสีเขียวอ่อน บางใบจะออกน้ำตาลอมเขียวปน ๆ กันได้ (โดยเฉพาะช่วงแดดจัด/ต้นเริ่มแตกใบใหม่) เนื้อใบยังบาง เส้นกลางใบเด่น และใบยังไม่แข็งเหมือนใบเพสลาดหรือใบแก่ สิ่งที่ผมใช้สังเกตง่าย ๆ คือ 1) ถ้าใบยังเรียวยาวเป็น “ดาบ” และยังไม่คลี่ = ยังไม่ใช่ใบกางเต็ม 2) ถ้าใบเริ่มคลี่เป็นแผ่น สีเขียวอ่อน เนื้อใบบาง จับแล้วนิ่ม = เข้าระยะใบกาง 3) ถ้าใบเริ่มหนาขึ้น สีเขียวเข้มขึ้น เห็นผิวใบแน่นขึ้น = กำลังจะเข้าใบเพสลาด เรื่อง “ตาราง/สูตรปุ๋ยทุเรียน” ในช่วงใบกาง ผมจะยึดหลักว่า ใบอ่อนสร้างอาหารเองยังไม่เก่ง จึงต้องค่อย ๆ เติมอาหารให้สม่ำเสมอ ไม่อัดหนักทีเดียว โดยพื้นฐานใช้ปุ๋ยสูตรเสมอ 15-15-15 หรือ 16-16-16 เพื่อพยุงการแตกใบและขยายขนาดใบ แล้วค่อยเสริมธาตุรอง-เสริมทางใบให้ใบเขียวและสมบูรณ์ขึ้น ธาตุที่ผมให้ความสำคัญมากในช่วงนี้คือ “ธาตุสังกะสี (Zn) ในทุเรียน” เพราะเกี่ยวกับการเจริญของยอดและใบ ถ้าขาดมักเห็นใบเล็ก แคระแกร็น การแตกยอดไม่สม่ำเสมอ (บางสวนจะเข้าใจผิดว่าเป็นโรคหรือโดนแมลง) ผมมักเสริม Zn คู่กับ Fe และ Mn เพื่อช่วยเรื่องการสร้างคลอโรฟิลล์ให้ใบเขียวขึ้น และเติม Ca-B (แคลเซียม-โบรอน) เพื่อช่วยเรื่องความแข็งแรงของเนื้อเยื่อใบอ่อน ลดอาการใบอ่อนเสียทรงง่าย ส่วน “เพลี้ยไฟทุเรียน/เพลี้ยไฟกินใบทุเรียน” ช่วงใบกางเจอบ่อยมาก จุดสังเกตที่ค่อนข้างชัดคือรอยดูดกินตามเส้นกลางใบหรือขอบใบ ทำให้เส้นกลางใบเป็นสีน้ำตาล ใบหงิก ใบไม่คลี่สวย ถ้ารุนแรงใบอ่อนร่วงได้ เคล็ดลับที่ช่วยให้คุมได้เร็วคือ เดินสวนช่วงเช้าหรือเย็น จับยอดอ่อนดู ถ้าใบเริ่มหงิกผิดปกติให้รีบสำรวจใต้ใบและตามเส้นกลางใบทันที เพราะถ้าปล่อยให้ใบกางเสียรูปแล้ว ต่อให้ใบโตขึ้นก็ไม่กลับมาสวยเหมือนเดิม นอกจากเพลี้ยไฟ ยังควรเฝ้า “เพลี้ยไก่แจ้” (ทำให้เป็นจุดเหลือง ใบงอและร่วง) และ “หนอนกินใบ” ที่เริ่มกัดใบตั้งแต่ยังอ่อนได้เช่นกัน ผมจะเน้นหลักเดิมคือ ตรวจแปลงให้ถี่ในช่วงแตกใบใหม่ และถ้าจำเป็นต้องใช้สาร ให้สลับกลุ่มสารตามฉลากเพื่อลดดื้อยา และพ่นให้โดนใต้ใบ/ยอดอ่อนซึ่งเป็นจุดที่ศัตรูพืชมักอยู่ครับ
