... Read moreMy fellow creatures of the night, are you ready to embrace your inner vampire this Valloween? After sharing my own gothic transformation, I've had so many questions about how I put together my dramatic look and achieved that supernatural photoshoot vibe. So, I thought I'd share some of my top tips and tricks to help you create your own captivating vampire persona!
First up, let's talk about the *dramatic makeup*. A classic vampire look starts with a pale base – think porcelain skin. I achieve this by using a foundation shade lighter than my natural skin tone, sometimes even mixing in a white foundation mixer. Don't forget to set it well with a translucent powder to keep that ethereal, matte finish. For the eyes, it's all about depth and intensity. I love using deep reds, purples, and smoky grays to create a captivating, almost haunting gaze. A sharp winged eyeliner is a must, and don't shy away from some seriously voluminous false lashes to give that extra dramatic flair. And of course, no vampire is complete without a bold lip! Rich, blood-red lipstick is iconic, but you can also experiment with deep burgundy, plum, or even a black lipstick for an ultra-gothic feel. A little bit of fake blood dripping from the corner of your lip can really elevate the look for a photoshoot!
Now, for the dark outfit – your vampire wardrobe is key to setting the mood. Think flowing capes, velvet, lace, and corsets. I usually opt for long, elegant silhouettes in black, deep red, or dark jewel tones. Accessorize with antique-looking jewelry, chokers, and perhaps a cameo. For my recent shoot, I wore a beautiful black lace gown that had an almost ethereal quality, perfect for looking like I was 'floating horizontally' as described in some of the behind-the-scenes snaps!
And for those wanting to recreate that supernatural and eerie atmosphere for a photoshoot, location is everything. While an actual cemetery provides unparalleled gothic vibes, you can achieve a similar effect in a dimly lit forest, an old building with interesting architecture, or even a studio with the right backdrops and lighting. To get that 'swarm of bats flying overhead' effect, you can use digital overlays in post-production, or for a more practical approach, hang some prop bats with fishing line in front of a dark backdrop. Playing with shadows and smoke machines can also add incredible depth and mystery. The goal is to create a scene where you truly look like a creature of the night, perhaps even leaning against an ancient wall, just like in my gothic vampire-themed scene!
Whether it's for Valloween, Halloween, or just a dark fantasy photoshoot, embracing the vampire aesthetic is so much fun. It allows you to explore a dramatic and mysterious side of beauty and fashion. What are your favorite vampire makeup tricks or gothic fashion staples? Share your thoughts below!
