This was more of an odds and end haul. We already had all of the meats and some other basics. We do buy fruit multiple times a week though because my son is a sensory child and will prefer fruit over almost everything. #grocerylist#groceryhaul#fruit#fyp#food

My latest haul was a perfect example of an 'odds and ends' trip, but even these smaller runs are crucial for keeping the pantry and fridge stocked. For us, a major focus is always fresh produce, and I wanted to share a bit more about how we manage our fruit and veggie intake, alongside those much-needed convenience items.
First up, the fruit mountain! As mentioned, my son is a sensory child, and fresh fruit is almost always a guaranteed hit. This means our cart often looks like a fruit stand exploded in it! We regularly pick up staples like bananas and apples, but I love to add seasonal berries – blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries are always a win. Cut watermelon is fantastic for quick snacks. When buying in bulk, I always look for ripe-but-firm options to ensure they last a few days, and I often pre-wash and cut some for easy access. Having a dedicated fruit drawer or bowl encourages everyone to grab a healthy snack.
Then there are the fresh vegetables. Even with a focus on fruit, getting those greens and other essential veggies in is super important. On this trip, I grabbed baby spinach, Yukon potatoes, sliced mushrooms, an onion, a cucumber, and a head of broccoli. These are incredibly versatile! The spinach can easily be tossed into smoothies, scrambled eggs, or wilted into pasta sauces. Yukon potatoes are great for roasting or mashing, while broccoli can be steamed, roasted, or even added to stir-fries. Sliced mushrooms and onions are fantastic flavor bases for almost any savory dish. For quick sides, I often prep these as soon as I get home, washing and chopping so they’re ready to go during busy weeknights.
Now, let’s talk about the reality of family life: convenience foods. While fresh is always great, sometimes you just need a quick solution. We included items like frozen waffles for those hectic mornings, a Party Pizza for an easy Friday night dinner, and macaroni & cheese for a comforting side. Jonny Pops popsicles are a fun treat that don't feel too heavy. It's all about balance, isn't it? Knowing when to lean on these items can save so much stress, especially after a long day. We also picked up essentials like Italian bread, pork sausage, eggs, and premium bacon to round out our breakfast and lunch options.
And finally, drinks! Staying hydrated is key, and my family has a mix of preferences. We had Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Gold Peak Zero Sugar Sweet Tea, and Diet Dr Pepper on the list, alongside apple juice for the little one. It’s about having options that everyone enjoys, within reason.
Shopping for a diverse haul like this means I always try to plan a little, but also stay flexible for those "odds and ends" moments. What are your go-to fresh produce items or quick family favorites?
