The 2017 Venice biennale is a gigantic exhibition about social justice. It criticizes and critiques Israel Palestine conflicts, wars and other political events through prints, digital videos and theatres. It puts China in a particularly racist position in the world countering various western manouvers. It is about imagination, imaginary creatures and images. It makes these subjects recreating with a joyful reflection on themselves. China has become a larger than life entity in these images. China has become a monster. China is a place people don’t want to talk about. Etc.
Having attended various exhibitions focused on social justice, I found that the 2017 Venice Biennale offered a unique and impactful experience by blending art with political commentary. The portrayal of China as a larger-than-life monster challenges visitors to reconsider their perceptions about nations often caught in political controversies. The use of imaginary creatures and digital media helped convey complex themes in an accessible and evocative way, making the abstract more tangible.
