The exhibition, loops, swoops and curlicues at Toronto reference library suggests people make history through writings. It criticizes Israel Palestine conflicts, wars and political events through cuneiform tablets. It views the countries such as china, Egypt and Iran as eastern compatriots to the western countries such as United States, United Kingdom and Canada. It is talking about languages as a form of communication. Etc.

... Read moreVisiting the exhibition at the Toronto Reference Library offers a unique opportunity to understand how writing shapes history and reflects societal changes. From ancient cuneiform tablets dating back to the Old Babylonian period in Mesopotamia, this collection eloquently demonstrates how early forms of language and record-keeping were foundational to human civilization. What fascinated me most was the exhibition's remarkable ability to link these ancient artifacts to modern geopolitical issues, such as the Israel-Palestine conflict and ongoing wars. It highlighted how communication, through various languages and scripts, serves both as a bridge and a battleground in political discourse. The presentation of eastern nations like China, Egypt, and Iran alongside western countries including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada encouraged me to reflect on the interconnectedness of cultures despite their diverging histories. The artworks, described as loops, swoops, and curlicues, visually represented the evolution and fluidity of language as a mode of expression. This metaphorical depiction of writing impressed upon me the complexity and beauty inherent in communication — both written and spoken. Experiencing this exhibition also made me appreciate the deep resonance that written history holds over current events, reminding us that understanding these connections can foster greater empathy and insight into our world. For anyone interested in how writing documents human history and influences political narratives, this exhibit is both enlightening and thought-provoking.
