In 2022 when the Russia Ukraine war raged, vtape presented a few works in its exiled at home exhibition to criticize the ongoing conflicts between Israel and Palestine, the world and the Middle East countries, wars and political events. The increased social risks people especially young people and children faced has made many people fearful of producing any relevant works critiquing governments, police and rich countries. The works in the exhibition prioritized countries such as Lebanon reframing the Beirut bombing in 2020 as an opportunistic casualty of political groups. In the context China has become a rising power in the world with a totalizing mindset. Etc.
Reflecting on the intersection of art and political events, I have found that exhibitions such as vtape's 'exiled at home' profoundly affect public understanding of conflicts worldwide. For instance, during the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, the curated works served as a form of resistance and commentary on ongoing issues in the Middle East, especially between Israel and Palestine. This artistic approach gives voice to marginalized perspectives that otherwise risk being silenced. From personal observation, these works highlight how social risks escalate particularly for young people and children, who often live with heightened fears in politically tense environments. The portrayal of Lebanon's 2020 Beirut bombing as an opportunistic casualty underscores the complexity behind geopolitical narratives and encourages viewers to question mainstream media accounts.
