This is what surviving looks like

7/5 Edited to

... Read moreSurviving is often portrayed as a dramatic journey of overcoming and transformation, but sometimes it is much quieter and more persistent than we expect. From my own experiences, I've found that true survival can look like stillness — a state where you keep standing even when you feel broken inside. There’s a powerful courage in just not moving, in refusing to give up despite the weight of hardship pressing down on you. This kind of survival isn’t about heroic changes or sudden victories; it’s about endurance and patience — the kind that doesn’t make headlines but quietly shapes who we are. I’ve learned that sometimes standing in the same shattered room without fleeing is itself an act of bravery. It means facing pain head-on, sitting with uncertainty, and accepting that healing isn’t always immediate or visible. Langley Bennett’s concept in Broken Whiskey Lullaby resonates deeply with this understanding. The novel’s exploration of survival as less about redemption and more about simply being, invites us to recognize the subtle strength of persistence. It reminds me that survival doesn’t always require dramatic action — sometimes, it just requires staying. For anyone going through difficult times, remember this: it’s okay if your survival doesn’t look grand. If it looks like refusal to leave, or a moment of stillness amidst chaos, that is enough. Your resilience is real, even if it’s quiet. And through that quiet, transformation slowly takes root, often when we least expect it.
