First week in Dublin!

I’m so excited to be studying abroad at Trinity College Dublin!! Here’s a look at all of the places I explored during my first few days here before classes started. I definitely think that getting out and exploring the city helped me with some of my homesickness. I’m excited to call this place home for the next few months! #studyabroad #ireland

... Read moreMy first week exploring Dublin was such a whirlwind of emotions and discoveries! After settling into Trinity College for my study abroad adventure, I quickly realized that getting out and seeing the city was truly the best remedy for any homesickness. And wow, Dublin did not disappoint! One of the absolute highlights, which I know many of you are curious about, was visiting Trinity College Dublin itself, especially its breathtaking Long Room Library. Walking into that grand interior, seeing the tall wooden bookshelves stretching up to the ceiling, filled with ancient texts – it's truly an unforgettable experience. It felt like stepping into a movie! My tip for anyone visiting is to book your tickets for the Book of Kells exhibition, which includes access to the Long Room, well in advance online. It gets incredibly busy, and securing a time slot means you won't miss out on seeing those iconic bookshelves and the historic manuscripts. Don't just rush through; take your time to soak in the atmosphere. The whole campus, with its historic facade and beautiful courtyards, is a joy to wander through, right in the heart of Dublin city center. Another iconic spot from my explorations was St. Patrick's Cathedral. The exterior of this large stone building with a prominent spire is absolutely majestic. Even if you don't go inside, just walking around the grounds gives you a real sense of its history and scale. I found a great spot near the park to simply admire its architecture and watch the world go by. It’s definitely a must-see for its sheer grandeur and historical significance. Beyond these major landmarks, the charm of Dublin lies in its vibrant streets and hidden gems. I loved strolling down Grafton Street, which is always bustling with street performers and shoppers. It's especially beautiful to see the outdoor flower stall adding a splash of color to the vibrant street scene. Just off Grafton Street, you'll find St Stephen's Green Park, which is a tranquil oasis in the middle of the city. I spent some time there, enjoying the serene scene in St Stephen's Green Park with its lovely paths and water features – perfect for a moment of peace. And for a unique shopping experience, the Stephen's Green Shopping Centre with its multi-story mall with a glass roof and intricate ironwork is quite a sight. Further afield, I ventured to Dublin Castle, a fascinating historic stone and brick building complex with a prominent clock tower, offering a glimpse into Ireland's past. And who can forget Phoenix Park? It’s enormous! Seeing the tall stone obelisk monument and hoping to spot some deer made for a memorable afternoon. The scenic view of a river in Dublin at sunset on one of my evenings was just magical, truly capturing the beauty of this city. Every corner of Dublin tells a story, and I’m so excited to keep exploring. It really does feel like home already!
