If It Doesn’t Look Like Jesus…

One of the biggest lies the world tells us is that LOVE is supposed to HURT. But when I read 1 Corinthians 13:4 📖, I don’t see PAIN anywhere. I see PATIENCE ⏳, KINDNESS 🌸, GRACE 🕊️, and MERCY 🙏🏾.
Now, loving people can be HARD because people are imperfect. But LOVE itself was never designed to ABUSE, CONTROL, MANIPULATE, or DESTROY ⚠️.
JESUS ✝️ is our MODEL. He SERVED 🤲🏾, FORGAVE, SACRIFICED, and SPOKE TRUTH 📖. Even those who hated Him received His COMPASSION and MERCY.
Today, ask yourself 🔍: Does the way I LOVE others look like JESUS? And am I accepting treatment that God never intended me to call LOVE?
REAL LOVE BUILDS 🌿. REAL LOVE HONORS 🤝🏾. REAL LOVE SERVES 🙌🏾. REAL LOVE REFLECTS CHRIST ✝️.
If it doesn’t look like JESUS, be careful about calling it LOVE.

From my own experiences, I’ve noticed how often societal narratives confuse love with hurt or control, but genuine love builds rather than destroys. One powerful way to model Christ-like love is through intentional prayer, asking God to fill your heart with the Spirit, enabling your actions to demonstrate trust, care, and forgiveness. For instance, I've found that taking time each morning to pray for those I struggle to love genuinely changes my attitude and behaviors, bringing peace and understanding that wouldn’t arise otherwise. Love that looks like Jesus is also about serving others selflessly. In practical terms, this could mean offering forgiveness to someone who has wronged you or lending a helping hand without expecting anything in return. These actions reflect the sacrifice and compassion Jesus showed, transforming relationships and nurturing healthier connections. Moreover, real love honors and respects others, recognizing their worth as God’s creation. In my journey, I’ve learned to challenge unhealthy dynamics where love is mistaken for manipulation or abuse. Setting boundaries with grace, yet standing firm on valuing oneself, mirrors God's intention for how love should be experienced. The prayer captured within the article truly resonates: asking God to help us show love as He does highlights our dependence on divine guidance to live out this radical, unconditional love each day. By embracing these biblical principles and reflecting deeply on scriptures like John 13:34-35 and Romans 12:10, we can better discern whether the love we give and receive genuinely resembles Jesus’ perfect love. In conclusion, if the love we experience or express causes harm or diminishes others, it is essential to reevaluate and redirect our understanding.
