... Read moreDealing with narcissistic abuse, especially from a parent, is one of the most complex emotional challenges anyone can face. I remember how often people would say to me, "But that's your mother," as if that should automatically excuse the toxic behavior I endured. It felt like my pain was being dismissed and minimized, which only added to the confusion and hurt. One key realization I had in my recovery journey is that emotional abuse by a narcissistic parent leaves deep scars on our self-esteem and our ability to trust others. It shapes our understanding of normal relationships in a distorted way, making it difficult to identify what is healthy and what isn’t. This is why the phrase "But that's your mother" can be so harmful—because it suggests that structural family ties justify mistreatment, which is simply untrue. I also learned to recognize the enablers—people who defend the abuser without understanding the impact of their words. Often, enablers are unaware or unwilling to confront the reality of narcissistic abuse, sometimes out of denial or their own conditioning. It’s crucial to surround yourself with people who validate your experience rather than dismiss it. Throughout my personal experience, connecting with communities who share similar stories and using hashtags like #narctok helped me feel less isolated. Such platforms provide support and valuable insights on establishing boundaries, practicing self-compassion, and seeking professional help when needed. Recovery is a gradual process that involves reclaiming your sense of safety, building self-worth, and learning what healthy relationships look like. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for acknowledging abuse simply because of the abuser’s identity or familial role. Your feelings are valid, and your healing journey matters.

Calling narcissistic abuse for what it is isn’t mean
Apparently using the correct word to describe a narcissist and being able to name the abuse is “going too far.” 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ Meanwhile they called us every name in the book. Tell me in the comments - what’s the most outrageous thing the narcissist in your life ever called you? #narctok
