The Leader’s Cheat Sheet: Meaning vs Purpose 🍋
Purpose gets people in the door, but meaning is why they stay. If your team is mission-driven but still disengaged, you might be missing the three pillars of meaningful work.
Why Purpose Isn’t Enough.
Many organisations sell a grand vision (the 'Why'). However, as Tamara Myles explains in our latest masterclass, purpose is just one piece of the puzzle. When daily work feels disconnected from a person’s sense of community or growth, even the most inspiring mission falls apart.
The 3 Pillars of Meaningful Work (Save this!) 📌
To keep your positive disruptors and high performers, you must focus on the 'How' of their daily experience:
Community: Do they feel a genuine sense of belonging and support from their peers?
Contribution: Can they see a direct line between their specific tasks and the team’s success?
Challenge: Are they being stretched in a way that encourages personal and professional growth?
3 Action Steps for Leaders This Week 🚀
Audit your 1:1s: Instead of just checking on tasks, ask: "Which part of your work felt most meaningful this week?"
Create a 'Sandbox': Give your 'positive disruptors' a low-stakes space to test a new idea for two weeks.
Connect the Dots: Explicitly state how a team member’s specific contribution helped the organisation reach a goal.
