Healthy Grocery Haul 🛒🍆🍌🍓

Last week we sat back and realized how bad we’ve been eating & how much we want to start getting our bodies right!! After having our “last meal” ( AYCE Korean BBQ) we finally taken the first steps by completely going through the kitchen and throwing out junk / processed food and shopped for healthier options!! Trying to stay away from dairy, sweets, frozen meals, greasy foods, starch, bread ( my favorite 🥺 ) ✨🍌

There’s a meal plan that we’re going to follow for the next 30 days starting today ( July 22nd, 2024 )! This will also help us from being frustrated about having to figure out what to eat each night 😅

When I decided to overhaul my diet, my first step was creating a smart healthy grocery list to ensure my cart was packed with nourishing items. First, always plan your meals for the week. This helps you avoid impulse buys and ensures you have all the ingredients you need. I love focusing on fresh, vibrant produce. This haul, for example, was packed with essentials like juicy tomatoes and crisp bell peppers for salads and stir-fries, along with hearty butternut squash and sweet carrots perfect for roasting. Don't forget leafy greens like baby spinach and spring mix – they're so versatile! For snacks and desserts, I grabbed plenty of strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. And a pro-tip: frozen fruits like strawberries and bananas, pineapple chunks, and berry medley are fantastic for smoothies and last longer. Next up, lean proteins are crucial for satiety and muscle health. This time, I made sure to pick up some versatile options like pork tenderloin, fresh Mahi-Mahi fillets, lean chicken breasts, and quickly cookable shrimp. These are staples that can be seasoned differently throughout the week to keep meals exciting. For a boost of probiotics, plain Greek yogurt is a fantastic choice (if you're not avoiding all dairy, or opt for a plant-based alternative if you are!). And let's talk about those healthy carbs and fats! I filled my basket with sweet potatoes – excellent for baking or cubing into hash. Instead of rice or pasta, I often incorporate more veggies like green beans, zucchini, and cauliflower which are surprisingly filling and nutrient-dense. My personal strategy now involves shopping the perimeter of the grocery store first, where all the fresh produce, dairy, and meat are located. I try to limit my time in the middle aisles where processed foods lurk. Another great tip: read labels! Look for ingredients you recognize and minimize added sugars, unhealthy fats, and excessive sodium. Making this switch has been so empowering. It’s amazing how much better you feel when you fuel your body with real food. And honestly, having a fridge full of healthy options makes meal prep a breeze and takes away the stress of figuring out dinner every night. It’s a game-changer for anyone looking to get their body right and feel their best!
